Default RODE NT1000 vs. NEUMANN TLM 103

Ok, I've really heard alot about the NT1000 and how it really compares to the TLM103. RODE has even been bold enough to run ads Directly comparing the two.

Has anyone heard the two side by side? Cuz the the NT1000 runs for 300.00 and the TLM103 749.00.

I love the TLM103 sound and how it captures EVERYTHING. If I can get that sound for 300, hell I'll do it. Or, should I get a Joe Meek VC1Q Studio Channel for my RODE NT1.

I am looking for that silky smooth sound on my vocals and its honestly a hard thing to capture. I do love my NT1 but just feel it doesnt have the TLM103 sound. I ounce heard the 103 with a VC1Q and was blown away. Could not believe it. Oh how I long for that sound.

one thing I've learned as a vocalist. when I hear something that sounds great for my voice, theres no comprimise or comparison. (save up the cash)

sounds like you dont dig the Rhode sound for your voice and thats ok, the fact that you already have one I wouldnt get another Rhode. (guys around here swear by the rhode mics, but if it doesnt sound good for you, it doesnt sound good period!

I've used the TLM 103 and its a great mic, but guess what?.. it doesnt sound all that great for my voice. doesnt mean it sucks. for under a grand I dig the AKG C414TLII vocal version (but thats $900.00)

we can sit hear and tell you about a bazillion mics that are great, but if you already heard something you dig for YOUR VOICE and no one elses, than thats the whole game.

go to guitar center or some place and A/B mics all day. check out the Blue- Baby Bottle $499.00
......see, now here I go!

good luck

Both are pretty good mics, and both are a significant upgrade from the NT1 IMO.

The best thing to do is buy both, take them back to your place and run them through your current preamp and see which one sounds best on your voice. Then take the unwanted mic back for a refund.

The VC1Q is a pretty nice preamp, but you can get very similar results from a $200 Joemeek MQ3 (or the VC3Q, which was its predecessor).

I recorded all weekend with a borrowed TLM 103. It sounded gorgeous. Haven't really played around with that Rode, but I'm definitely putting the TLM 103 on my shopping lst.

Hmm that tlm103 sound is very much loved and I know that sound. I just havent heard many people's opinions on the nt1000. That's a freakin 450.00 difference we are looking at man. I can get two and still have change. Shoot I can get a nt1000 and a decent pre. oh well better do that A B test at samash or GC.

My very first DUC post...I hope I'm not violating DUC etiquette by pointing to what looks like a good deal ...

I notice that www.mercenaryaudio.com are selling the TLM-103 for $699.95, and until Sept 30 they're throwing in a free pair of Sennheiser HD280 headphones.

The EA-1 suspension mount's another $175.50...

Let's see...mortgage payment, or mic...
anybody have a non-terminal cure for gear acquisition syndrome?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Better yet, get the Rode NTK and you will really be happy. A big step up from the NT1 and has favorable reviews to the TLM103 here on the DUC. Hard to believe it goes great with the Digi pres. You should be able to get one for around 400.00 now.

Well, I screwed up my first post. d'oh!

That mercenary price on the TLM103 is
