Default Dynamics III causes PTLE to unexpectedly quit

I have a support request in to Digi for this, but maybe over the weekend someone else here can help:

Basically, Dynamics III has stopped working - anytime I try inserting any of the three plug-ins, PTLE quits. I've trashed DAE prefs and com.protools.plist or whatever it's called and I've tried repairing permissions. I don't remember what iteration of PTLE it last worked in for me - I haven't used it in a while, but I definitely have used it within the last few months since I got the Mbox 2 Pro.

I'm also having some permissions problems with some Roger Nichols plug-ins at the moment as well where I get an 'unknown error' when I try to use them on anything other than an aux track. Don't know if the problem is related or not, I have emails into RND about that, and although it can be temporarily fixed by uninstalling/reinstalling the problem always shows up again next time I relaunch PTLE (ie, it'll work for one session).

I'm on a Macbook Core Duo 2.0 with 2GB RAM, OSX 10.4.8. PTLE 7.3.1cs2, Mbox 2 Pro.

All ideas/suggestions welcome!

HI,

since I also have the RND plugs myself and the EQ/DynIII plugs are working great on my equal setup:
MB PTMP7.3.1. I could think of a problem with the installtion of PT itself.

Did you verify that you have the correct intel/UB version of the plugs?
the wrong version WILL cause problems.

perhaps try uninstalling/reinstalling PT via the PT installer.
be sure to check the Troubleshooting thread at the top of the forum.

All is UB, for sure. I've configured my system as suggested per the troubleshooting thread.

If I get time tomorrow though I'll try a PTLE reinstall and see what happens.

OK - if I uninstall Pro Tools, are all my plug-ins wiped with it? How about plug-in presets?

HI

you can backup your plug-ins easily. There should be an Plug-in folder alias in the ProTools folder,
just click it and copy the files to another location.
or search for the RTAS folder via Finder. (it´s library> app support> digidesign> RTAS, I think)

I did not have to uninstall the new PT7, so I don´t know what else will be removed.

Ok, I've uninstalled and re-installed. In between I used Applejack to repair the disk/fix permissions etc, but nothing's fixed.

One thing that concerns me is that the Uninstall Pro Tools program doesn't actually seem to remove everything. A few subfolders are left, with some files. Should this concern me? I did select 'Clean uninstall' but the Digidesign -> Pro Tools folders were left, and at the very least I think there were folders for MidiIO, Controllers, and the DVToolkit2.bundle file was still there, and possibly some others...

HI,

sorry, the next way of testing would be reinstalling the system but that is always such a drag.

You may perhaps try to download the DynIII plug-in seperately to make sure the installer
wasn´t faulty.
And make sure you have the latest iLok software if you still have trouble with the RND plugs.

Digi's responded now and we're trying to figure this out.

I did reinstall DynIII but it actually doesn't show up anymore in PT at all (since the reinstall) ... ??!!??

I'll see how this goes, but yes, a wipe/reinstall might be in order.

As I'm on a macbook I can at least now have an excuse to upgrade easily to a faster/bigger HD...
