Default studio security

All,

I am posting this here because I want to speak to home studio types.

I have a home studio and would like to know what approaches people are taking regarding security--as you know the gear gets quite expensive.

Without publishing the location of motion detectors etc, what do you guys do to protect yourself from thievery? Bands come onto your property, into your home see the gear pay some paultry fee.

Your gear is then well advertised.

Also, does anyone have any reccomendations regarding insurance for the gear. I know that many insurance companies do not include musical equipment of any kind in the home insurance.

cheers

Firstly, a rider on your home insurance to include your gear. An alarm system on your house will haelp with the insurance. I also have a couple deadbolts on my basement door. If a thief really wants the stuff, I guess he could get it, but I'd make out like a fat rat on the insurance settlement.

I have insurance, 2 alarms with motion detection, a bull mastiff (my rottie died) and 3 fire arms. However my #1 security is the man upstairs. My #2 security is my selection of clients and who I choose to let in my home and studio.

Thanks for the input. I have been writing/recording my own stuff and for people I know very well. I am wanting to open things up a bit to get more experience and to generate the cash I need for all of the gear you guys talk so much about.....Ie preamps etc.

cheers

Insurance and care on who you allow into your studio... there have been quite a few take-over robberies of recording studios (some where the owners have been tied up and killed).

Ya,
I Know a buddy who had an artist in (music genre - reamins unknown) The guy woud not pay and brought acouple friends over the last night. He then tried to pull a gun on my buddy. Said he was not going to pay and wanted his tunes. No violence but still. I tend to meet initial new clients before I bring them into the studio.
