Clocking help with 2 computer setup
Hello, I have a pretty convoluted setup that I'm having some issues with:
I'm currently using an 002R with my G5 dual 2.0, which works fine. I use an external 8ch A/D, the RME ADI8-DS (soon to be upgraded,) so I run that in the 002's ADAT optical input. I monitor through the Presonus Central Station via the S/PDIF output on the 002. Here's where it get's interesting -- I use a second computer (G4/533) with a DIGI 001 as an outboard reverb unit, running PT and using Altiverb for reverbs. I am sending the 002 optical output to the 001 on the G4, so I can get 8 sends in, and I then return the mixed reverbs' signal from the 001 S/PDIF out into the 002 S/PDIF in. I had been using this system for over a year with other computers -- I had the G4/533 as my main computer, using the 001, and a second G4/400 running Digital Performer with a Seasound Solo audio card and Altiverb for reverbs. No problems. However, since I made the upgrade to the 002/G5 setup and designated the G4/533 as the "reverb box," I have had some clocking issues. What happens, is that when I'm tracking, I will use the RME A/D in internal clock mode, and set the G5 to optical sync. No problems there. I have the G4/533/001 set to optical sync, and here is where I run into problems. I get clicks and dropouts in this setup ONLY when I'm using the RME as the clock master. If I stop recording and switch the G5/002 to internal sync, the G4/001 clocks perfectly, and I get clean reverb returns via S/PDIF. But, If I switch the G5/002 to ADAT sync for recording, somehow the clocking is messed up by the time it gets to the G4/001, and I get this clocking issue. I'd like to be able to leave the RME A/D as the master clock all the time, as it makes things much simpler and lets me use Altiverb as a reverb to monitor for tracking sessions. Can anyone think of a cause why this would be happening, and/or a solution? Thanks!

Re: Clocking help with 2 computer setup
Have you resolved this issue? I just upgraded from a 001 to the 002R and I'm using the RME ADI-8s internal clock with light pipe ADAT connection to the 002r and I'm using the SPDIF to an external reverb unit like you are using the second computer and I am getting digital clicks also. I will try disconnecting the SPDIF to see it that helps. Let me know.

Re: Clocking help with 2 computer setup
I have been playing with this since I got the 002R and it appears that the 002R will not send thru the SPDIF port the clock it gets from the RME adat port. They say in the manual if you want to use the SPDIF for a digital send return you must set PT LE to internal sync. Only solution might be to track with the RME clock and mix with the 002R clock.
