Does the quality of plugin sound processing increase with hd?

Default LE vs HD

I would say an older HD TDM system today is about latency - tracking a band and feeding hP mixes right out of the mixer

Native track counts far surpass TDM track counts.

Native processing power surpasses TDM power as well.

But in general TDM still tracks and tracks more stable and with significantly lower latency than a Native FW / USB type of interface

Native = PT12 vanilla

So your saying that hd won't give me a better sound just the ability to capture more sound?

HD gives you

the ability to mix in surround 7.1

Advanced automation modes (nice for sure but not OMG I would pay more for this)

Lower latency via Avid Hardware ( HDX and HDN) and DSP in the case of HDX.

Also Heat.

I think that's basically it....

Also with HD you can run Icon Control Surfaces

I use the 002, I'm frustrated with the sound I'm getting out of it!

Default LE vs HD

Yes A/D and D/A is really important

The first time I hooked up my Apollo after running a Focusrite FW interface was EYE OPENING or rather EAR OPENING

THE AD and DA conversion was way superior,

But to run a 3rd party interface you will have to get PT9 or higher.

Apollos are nice, probably about the same io size as the 002.

The twins are nice also, buy as much DSP as you can afford. Quads are the lowest you should go.
