Default Upgrade to 2023.3 problems

Hi,
Seems I did a crucial mistake upgrading, right ?

- Keyboard shortcuts have changed; switched to QWERTY instead of AZERTY
how can I go back to AZERTY ?

- "Instruments" aren't found anymore in the plugins, thus, MIDI and Instruments tracks are unreadable and grey/white

Then, this question:
how can I go back to a earlier version ?

Tks.

Hi. Welcome to the DUC.

If you don't have a backup, you can download an earlier version from
Avid/Account/Downloadcenter/Protools
And reinstall.

And then look into establishing a good backup strategy.

Assuming you're on a Apple Silicon Mac, you should be able to bring back your plugins by right clicking on the Pro Tools.app in your Applications folder and going to Get Info, then tick "Open in Rosetta"; You're not seeing them because they've not yet been ported to AAX ARM native.

As for going back to an earlier version - it's good practice to have previous pro tools installers and backups.

I can provide you with a 2022.12 installer if you really need it.

Thank you Johan.

Yep, I did the Rosetta thing and the plugins re appeared !

Still, two problems linger on (at this moment only two):
From time to time, a session will open with no MIX nor EDIT windows.
I have to manually check them back to appear.

And for some reasons, every time I open a session, the Shortcut Assignments goes back to "US Layout" instead of "Follow Keyboard Layouts".
It messes my shorcuts.

Tks again

That's a deliberate (and obviously poor choice by some moron) change by Avid made half way though last year. I filed a support case a while ago they don't give a damn and have no intent to fix.

Workaround for no mix/edit windows: You should be able to just hit Command = twice to get both of those windows back.

My problems (new features) so far are:

- Pro Tools won't load any of my current projects unless I run with Rosetta. It just goes unresponsive when I try.

- Plugin UIs are only semi functional. Some controls have stopped working.

- more frequent beach balling

Fantastic update.

So I went to my account on the website, clicked my products > downloads > legacy downloads .. and got a page about linking my avid master account blah blah. I clicked link. It failed. I clicked my products, went around in circles. Eventually found an external legacy download link! Am reinstalling the previous version.

I should know by now, and everyone I work with knows. Do not install pro tools updates.

no idea about your system, computer or anything. so it's close to impossible to help you to resolve your issue. sure sounds like a Apple silicon vs plugin issue to me tho!

FWIW I installed 2023.3 and overall it's been fine for me on my system. of course YMMV

as far as legacy versions - my friends and I all keep the older versions of PT stored away just in case they are needed. just sayin'. that said I have no problem finding previous versions in my Avid account.

The system is a Macbook air m1, 16GB, 1TB, mac os big sur. RME MADI and internal audio both get used.

The specific plugin UI issues were buttons and drop down controls in Massenberg MDWEQ5 and SIR soft clipper, but I didn't bother testing more plugs. I also have some things like CEDAR tools which cannot feasibly be updated if they break.

I also have not updated the OS because the system has been stable with a lot of software installed, and I can't afford to break anything. Don't know what possessed me to update PT. Momentary lapse in judgement.

Anyway, I've successfully rolled back to PT 2022.9.0 running via Rosetta and will have to keep it that way it seems.

BTW do you know a way to report bugs to AVID, besides using support requests, or hoping they monitor these forums?
