Default Support Plan - $599 with pt 10

Reading a post earlier -
Max Gutnik from Avid has been letting people know that they can buy a support plan for $599 that will include the upgrade, plus of course the support features

Can anyone pass me to a link to this or some more information.....$599 with support plus PT10 is bearable - $999 is not ....

How long do new customers have to sign up to the support plan before they are required to upgrade to Pro Tools 10 to qualify to buy into the plan? Just curious if the cost here for a HD upgrade via this plan is currently $599 and when it becomes $999+$599.

Getting customers to adopt these plans is understandable since it helps Avid with linear/predictable revenue. And on the surface this looks good for HD customers doing only software upgrades now. But those customers are also likely to need to buy HDX hardware in future and that will come bundled with software. So unless they really want the pure support aspects many lower-end customers are likely to just drop the ongoing support option if they use it to get to HD 10 now.

I've searched through Avid's support web site but can't find any real meat on the Standard Support at $599 that Max is mentioning--where is there an actual support contract somebody can read?

Until I know whether they will do card/software upgrades only seen as I bought an Omni already and dependent on the price I won't even think about buying PT10 - although I'm not paying $999 for this upgrade either - a joke - a couple of good features and making PT forward looking for the future (64 bit, new cards etc) does n't equate to good value for money.

Hi All,

Sorry for the confusion on the Support Contract. We realize that the audio community and our dealers do not have as much experience with these programs. We'll put some info together for everyone next week to clear up any confusion.

Hi Max, I hope you're not going to say that eventually the upgrade option to HD10 by ordering an Avid Standard Support plan is not an option anymore?

The Avid Standard Support program has been around for many years. If you are considering the special offer to get on Standard Support from HD9, you have until the end of the year. After that, you will need to be on Pro Tools HD 10 to purchase The Standard Support plan.

I purchased the $999 upgrade and emailed the avid online store a week ago and then again 2 days ago to change me to the service plan for $599 and refund $400. I haven't heard a reply yet or even got an acknowledgement. I copied Matt on my emails. What gives?

It is painful how unprepared AVID is to deal with any of this. Irresponsible bad leadership.
Just insulting.
