Default Who's using SSD for their system disk with PT?

I'm pretty sure Avid still doesn't recommend SSD drives for either system or audio drives, but I don't see how it could be a problem for the system drive.

Is anyone using an SSD system disk with Pro Tools 9 without any problems?

I'm thinking of putting a 240GB SSD in my new MacBook Pro.

I am using a OCZ Vertex 2 on my MacBook Pro (5,3). No issues.

I'm using an OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 240GB drive as my main system drive on my new MacPro, running PT 9.0.1 with no issues attributed to the drive that I can tell. Actually, I am having no issues with that drive whatsoever, as the only PT glitches I have encountered were with old files kept on a different drive that I opened in PT9 for the first time. Definitely go with a top-notch drive like the OWC Mercury Extreme Pro, however. I have heard stories of cheaper ones not performing as expected. The one I installed, however, has been a screamer of a champ, and I would not trade it for any conventional system drive right now!

Out of curiosity, are you able to run (small) audio sessions from your system drive without problems. I don't do this normally, but now and then I might start a new song with my laptop alone, or work on small sessions on my internal drive.

I wouldn't want to give up this option with my MacBook Pro.

I have not and do not plan to record to my SSD system drive on my main unit (the MacPro) in the studio. No particular reason other than it is not recommended and I have the other drives installed, so why run the risk? On my mobile rig, however, I DO record to the system drive. It is a MacBook Pro, and has only a 5400rpm drive in it. Like you, I have only done small "idea" projects on it; never more than a couple of audio tracks and an instrument track for Superior Drummer. I have had no problems doing this at all, and I don't think you will either, even though it will never be recommended by Avid or anyone else. I wouldn't recommend tracking through plug-ins or recording several tracks (3 or more) simultaneously, but if you are just laying down a basic guitar track to a beat, or a scratch vocal, you should be fine. Again, I stress that no one will ever recommend doing this, but I can tell you that I have and have had no problems.

I use to successfully record live stereo recordings on an Mbox 2 running LE 7.x on a Dell Latitude X1 with a 4,800rpm 1.8" internal drive running Windows XP. That was a 1.1gHz Core Solo machine with 1.25gB RAM.
