Default Dual Core Processor Affinity / 9093 9094 9129

Hi All,

I've been having the same problem as a number of people on here with repeated errors and dropouts despite having a 2.8 ghz dual core / 2 gigs of ram / 2 250 gig hard drive problem.

One thing I've seen answerbase is this: These errors can be caused by problems with processor scheduling in dual core processors. The solution is to assign Pro Tools to run on a specific processor core." (ID: 30125)

My concern with this is that it makes no mention of how to configure the Playback Engine - Pro Tools still reports two processors despite being assigned to one, and seems to vary on how well it works when I choose 1 or 2. Neither setting seems to work properly, but I'd like to get an idea of what is best while I try the myriad of other suggestions on this board

Thanks!
Ian

I'm not sure if this applies, but have you done the AMD/windows hotfix? Read this thread.

Hi and thanks spkguitar, I see I should have posted more information about my system despite my general question. The fix you refer to is only for AMD..

Processor: Intel dual core 2.8 ghz
Motherboard: Asus AiLife P5WD2 Premium
Memory: 2 gigs
Hard drive: 2 250 gig SATA

Yep, which is why I said that about "not sure it applies".

The errors you are experiencing might not be related to the dual core. Have you tried all of the suggestions in the General Troubleshooting thread?

Yes and thanks again, I've repeatedly done everything listed in the general troubleshooting; I found the dual-core issue when I entered 9093 into the answerbase, and since it described my exact problem I am exploring what it means. The other entry I found just now I have yet to try, the entry "For Intel-based systems, updating the Intel Ultra ATA storage controller to the Standard Dual PCI IDE controller resolves these errors.", which I will attempt when I get home tonight. I am still wondering about the fix I originally asked about: if I set the affinity of pro tools to only 1 processor, must I then change the playback engine one processor as well?
