Default Instrument track issue, hear midi notes, but wont record

hello, just did a clean install of p8.05,never ran into this issue before, when setting an instrument track, im able to play the instrument , listen to it, see the gain/volume meter react, but unable to record what i play.i get an empty track with no notes..the weird thing is that im able to use the pencil to draw midi notes on the track..one thing i need to add, im not using any outside midi control keyboard to control the notes on the instrument track, but rather my computer mouse to hit the emulation keyboard notes of the soft synth (as i have ordered one), any idea whats going on?

AFAIK, clicking on the little keyboard up the left edge of the instrument track never recorded notes. Its there as a visual reference only. There's no substitute for having an actual midi keyboard to lay down your notes. I do it with an old Ensoniq Mirage that cost me all of $50
