Default Lag when using microphone.

When I hook the mic up, there is a VERY noticeable lag between when something is spoken and when it actually comes through monitor/headphone outs on my Digi002.

I this just "the way it is"? I used to use Ensoniqs Paris recordings system and never had this problem.

Can someone please help a ProTools newbie like myself?

Up in your file menue you'll find the "Low latency monitoring" option. Select that & you should be set.

since you are new to pt, i want to point out two threads that may be very helpful to you. they are both always "stickied" to the top of the threads. good luck and have fun recording with pt!

(the new duc faq)

http://duc.digidesign.com/cgi-bin/ub...2;t=007368;p=1

(best system for under $1000)

http://duc.digidesign.com/cgi-bin/ub...2;t=004858;p=1

as a matter of fact, i am going to email stoneknife right now and ask to have latency listed on the faq list.

As is suggested above, that lag is known as latency.

Low latency monitoring mode is one solution, but I'd start by using a DAE HW buffer size of 64 or 128 - that way, plugins aren't disabled during tracking. As the session gets more complex, you may get to a point where you _need_ to use low latency monitoring, but I think of it as a last resort.
