WTF? Quicktime/iTunes import/export CHOPPY playback?!?!?!
Windows XP Pro, DuoCore, 3GB, 7.4 LE
so let me get this straight... with pro tools, i can import only QUICKTIME movies, export only as QUICKTIME movies (unless i purchase avi), yet when i play my exported QUICKTIME movie through the actual, for reals, honest to goodness QUICKTIME player, with system audio set to DIGIDESIGN Mbox output, the audio gets out of sync, gets chopped up, won't buffer correctly and there's not a f'ing thing i can do about it? ditto for itunes... will someone please tell me that i have this completely wrong. please. is digidesign just screwing over windows users? i'll bet this doesn't happen on macs. right? |

Re: WTF? Quicktime/iTunes import/export CHOPPY playback?!?!
That's honestly (IMHO) a Quicktime problem, though both companies lay blame on the other. A few versions ago, Apple removed the buffer from their Quicktime software that allowed for correction of this problem. The only solution is to revert to an older version of Quicktime, which cripples the new version of iTunes in some ways.
Of course, the Digidesign Wavedriver doesn't have a buffer adjustment, and never has. It could be corrected by Digidesign spending some time re-writing the Wavedriver to include a buffer and control panel. Personally, I would prefer they spend their time making sure the Pro Tools software functions as it should, or even add new features to it. Also, since your are posting about Pro Tools LE, you are posting in the wrong section of the forum. This section of the forum is for Pro Tools MPowered, the software that runs on M-Audio hardware, has it's own drivers, and usually doesn't suffer from the problem you are complaining about. You will have better luck finding answers to any future questions about LE, and other users who can commiserate their dis-satisfaction with this long-standing issue if you post over in the LE section of this users conference.

Re: WTF? Quicktime/iTunes import/export CHOPPY playback?!?!
many thanks spkguitar... wish i could revert to old quicktime/itunes, but i'm also running adobe video production software which requires latest patches/versions. whew. plus, i kinda like having my computer sounds (bells and whistles), web content and movies running through my mbox via my sony receiver/subwoofer/speakers. i guess quicktime/itunes will have to be removed from the digidesign opt-in list. ack.
