Default Audio processing conflicting with cpu tasks...?

Hey, just got a new system up and running with PT 6.9.

I got everything installed happily, without problems or errors, until:

When I try to play something with one or more VST instruments, I get the "audio processing is conflicting with CPU tasks, try reducing the buffer size etc." error.

My old system could handle several at once, so obviously this one should be able to as well. Its got twice the memory and twice the processing power.

All I was running was a few audio tracks, and a single sampletank instrument, and it refused to play for more than about 30 seconds without stopping. With that error. I've tried restarting and changing the settings in the playback menu, nothing seems to work.

Does anyone know what could be causing this problem?

Sorry.

ASUS A8N motherboard
AMD Athlon dual 3800 processor
2 gig ram
2 X 200gb seagate sata hard discs
Windows XP home edition with service pack 2

The recordings are NOT on the system drive, btw. (I read that it's better for it to be on a seperater drive in the manual).

Thanks.

Have you done EVERYTHING digi recomends on the 'general troubleshooting' sticky thread? If not - do so.

Beyond The Pale,

I basically have the same setup as you except I have the 4400+ CPU and am running PTLE 7.1. However, I get the same error. What fixes it, and I don't know why, is to go to Setup as soon as you start PT and change the buffer setting to anything other than what it is currently set at (then change it back if you like) or change the number of cpu's from 2 to 1 to 2 again, save and close the dialogue box. I have to do this every time I open PTLE. After doing this PTLE runs like a champ.

Greg

Greg.

I just tried doing as you suggested. No luck unfortunately.

Most of the stuff in the general troubleshooting thread is optimization stuff for old and slow pcs, and mine is neither.

What's happening is a very definate error, not just my pc not being up to the task.

The general troubleshooting thread is not about or for old or slow PCs. It has general configuration information for every PC. You can have the newest, fastest PC in the world, but if it isn't configured correctly for Pro Tools, it is not going to function correctly.

It also has a recommendation for how to post specific details about your system that would help the other users of this forum make suggestions.

I don't know what other info I can give, other than that I'm using an mbox.

I don't know heaps about computers, or hardware setup. A couple of the things listed in the general troubleshooting thread dont make a lot of sense to me, unfortunately.

For instance how would I know what device drivers are suspected of conflicting with PT?

Thanks.

From the General Troubleshooting page:
Quote:
Note: To enable other users to help you, please include all of your system details when posting an issue to the DUC; Pro Tools hardware, Pro Tools software version, CPU, OS version, Motherboard make/model, chipset, amount of RAM, type of hard drives used, etc.

- SiSoftware's Sandra Lite application can be used to post your full system profile:
www.sisoftware.net
Under SiSoftware Sandra, click on "Download & Buy" to download the free Sandra Lite version or purchase other versions.
Get that and run a system summary and post it here.
