Pans flipped to faders...
I often flip the pans down to the faders and I'm constantly forgetting if up is left or right and wondering why I can't get it etched into my brain. Then I realize why I think this is. In PT the pan lane shows up as left being up and down as right, but when you flip the faders on the Artist Mix it's the opposite, very confusing. Kinda like the whole on/off mute thing.
Anybody care to add this to list of things to fix/change? Thanks, JR

Re: Pans flipped to faders...
Certainly agree that I would also rather pan on the knobs but the knobs being as they are (finicky at best) it's much easier to pan on the faders. I'm in post so I need to be able to follow onscreen movement and the faders are way more reliable for that.

Re: Pans flipped to faders...
+1, it's very confusing the way panning on the faders is configured. The first time I flipped pans to faders I couldn't believe how it was set up, it just seems completely wrong that way.... My vote would go to simply having up=left and down=right, since that corresponds to what's happening onscreen.

Re: Pans flipped to faders...
Hmmm.... interesting, I can see it both ways.
On my system (Reaper) when using automation envelopes, Pan left does indeed send the graphic line up. On the other hand years of experience with analog rotaries tells me counterclockwise means "down" or "less", so the current behaviour seems correct in that Pan left is counterclockwise. So, depending on where I take my cues from, what seems to be the intuitive way can morph back and forth. |

Re: Pans flipped to faders...
Hey Geoff, good point on other pieces of software, I'll be honest I don't usually consider them since the Artist series is made by Avid and figure PT is the priority :) Anyhow, suffice to say it should be a preference item.
