Default Recording Midi Track - Midi Notes Disappear - Help

I created a stereo audi track, a midi track and put Sampletank on the audio track. I created some midi notes with the pencil tool on the midi track, played, everything is fine. I record enable the midi track and the transport, hit play and the midi notes vanish with no sound being played. I tried record enabling the audio track and zilch.

What am I doing wrong?

My goal is to record one midi track with flute from Sampletank 2 and a second midi track with a different instrument from Sampletank 2. How do I get this to work?

1. recording sample-tank-audio onto the same audio-track that has sample-tank as plug-in won't work because plug-ins are post; they come after the recording path. put sample-tank on an aux-track and route this one onto a stereo-audio-track to record on.

2. to trigger two different instruments within sample-tank you'd have to create two midi-tracks that are channeled to the desired sample-tank-instruments.

3. like audio, if you record your midi-playing over existing midi-data, that midi-data will be overwritten and not played while you record (unless you work in midi-merge-mode; adds newly played data to existing midi-events)
