Default Double problem - M-Audio Fast Track Ultra 8R

Hello,

As it's been stated, I have double problem, which I'll explain as following...

1) The driver of this card CAN'T be updated to the newest, and the UI reads the WRONG OS. I'm using Win 7 64bit SP1, NOT sVista SP1. It can be shown to the following picture as proof.

2) Until Thursday I didn't have lag problems. Since I restarted the PC, and for unknown reason it started having lag of 8secs. Like this, I can't concentrate on working my music production, nor can hear any music to any youtube stuff. There's also that weird clipping preventing it to smoothly be heard. It can be shown as proof in the following picture.

Any help would be appreciated to fix this madness. For the time being, untill any fix can be present I have disabled this very USB.

Thanks

What errors do you get when trying to update the driver? I don't think the OS being reported incorrectly is going to cause any issues, and might be fixed if you can get the newer driver installed.

What do you have your buffer set to? Any software/hardware changes to your system around when it started acting up?

That's the problem. Althought it has been installed alright, the driver's being still at this 5.10.5.5100(as noticed in this picture). Literally, it DOESN'T update to the newer(6.0.8) as I found in this very site. It's got stuck there.

The buffer is set to 256. In which buffer do you suggest me to change to find a possible fix?

Yeah, the whole PC has acted, because of it. Youtube frequently stopped and the sound clipped as the lag suggests. Same goes for every program(Windows Media Player, VLC, etc).

Even the Cubase SX 6, which I'm working a project currently, lags. When I play a project, it lags to 8ms, and there's that weird echo sound echoing from this very card. It was also noticed from Cubase SX6's main output source monitor.

A complete and precise description of any attached peripherals (hard drives, video devices, other firewire or USB devices that may be attached, etc). We need to know to which port on the computer they're connected to, what type of cables you're using (is it a FW800-FW400 adapter cable? How long is it? Are you using an extender or repeater?) and, if you've tried replacing cables, what the differences were between the original and the replacement.: I'm no expert, but I have 2 external hard drives and they're as usual USB-deviced connected with a USB merger(you guys know what do I mean) onto a single USB port. I'm against to the mess, so I tend to be tidy. No other cables are inserted than these.
Number and type (firewire, SATA, SCSI, etc) of drives installed, how they're formatted and which one(s) you're using for recording and playback.: I'm unsure if it helps, but I have only 2 SATA external drivers as mentioned above. The internal driver is SATA 3(I think) and this is where I have installed Cubase projects and the Cubase itself to avoid any misuse to the basic driver.
A concise list of the troubleshooting you've already tried - please be as specific as possible! The first thing we'll ask is 'Have you done everything in the Setup and General Troubleshooting thread?', so we'll want to know that you've done ALL of it and, if you've not done everything, we need to know what you have or have not done, as this can have a huge impact on further troubleshooting.: My first time doing so, so hit the list of troubleshooting to find out any solution to this. Otherwise, I'd not be here asking for help. lol

Fixed the lag problem. It needed TOTAL unistallation and UNPLUGGING the USB hardware from the PC. Once you plug the USB back and you install 6.1.8(Win7) drivers, it's being fixed! :)

The nightmare is back.

I tried formatting the PC to see if the clipping insisted. It still insists. Now I'm trying the backwards installation to find which driver isn't problematic to my system.

Once I see that this problem stops, I'll report it back to you.

BTW, I tried it in my Macbook and it was OK. The problem insists with the PC with Windows 7. Any dev would be kind to see it, because it makes me go nuts?

I have the same problems described in this post and even with the latest driver update 6.1.9 nothing has been solved!

Win 7 64 | Fast Track Ultra 8R

I just bought the card and I am unable to work!
At this time anyone has managed to solve the problem?

I am using this interface with Windows 7 84 bit right now.

You must NOT set the Ultra 8r as the default audio interface in windows.Set your motherboard audio interface as the default in Windows and let your DAW only use the Ultra 8r.

As I know, the USB drivers need to be installed with the device unconnected of the USB port. If you installed the driver with the device conected to the USB port, then:

1- With the device connected, uninstall the driver;
2- Disconnect the device from the USB port and install the new driver;
3- When the install finish, connect the device to the USB port, wait the automatic procedure of the installerto finish and test your device.

Sorry my bad English, my main language is Portuguese (brazilian).
Greetings.

This actually is not the right info to give. In the bios, if you have any onboard audio chip set, you should disable them.

In windows go to start-control panel-sound- playback. Set the audio device to your interface, make sure it is the one that is set to default then click properties and in the advanced tab make sure the settings are the same as you are using on your interface. If for example your interface is set to 24 bit 96khz, that is what you have to set in windows. Now in the recording tab, make sure it is also the default then click on properties and in the advanced tab select the right numbers of input with the right bitrate and frequencies, for example if your interface has 8 input and you are recording at 24 bit 96khz, you will select that in the drop down menu. In the sound tab, disable all the windows sound.

Also if you're using cubase and windows to play other application, you might want to try asio4all, but the above about setting the right playback, record and sound tab should still be done.

Unfortunately, that still leads to problems with a clash of settings in some situations.
