Default The 32bit float advantage

Import a music track into a 32bit float engine audio software
Put 2 gainer plugins on the track and lower the first gainer by 143dB
boost the second gainer by 143 dB
Listen, it sounds exactly the same.
And now compare it with the same track phase inverted: silence.

Now to see how it would sound in a 24 bit fixed environment, just bounce the -143dB track to a 24bit file, import it and apply 143dB gain on that file (Warning, lower the monitoring level!!!!!!!!!!) . It will sound totally crushed
Simpler if you have a protools there, just try the gain tip and prepare yourself for the same crushed sound.

This is a completely invalid test. By bouncing to a 24bit file, you remove any headroom given by the 48-bit mixer environment and you get a result of a one-bit signal. You didn't cause much damage in your 32-bit environment because you did it in real time with the mixer's available headroom. You'd get much the same result if you'd have applied the same logic to the PT HD environment.

If you're gonna come here and troll on your first post, you'd better do your research, ace. This is an apple/oranges scenario.

I can't agree. The 48 bit mixing stage is LATER. The above test can be done with 32 bit FP bouncing with the same result. I'm not trolling, i'm just making some math.

So what does any of this have to do with real world mixing? Ya know, if you travel at the speed of light, time becomes zero. You would live forever but the life of the universe would go by in the blink of an eye. Just think of all the great things you would have missed.

You meant, "I'm just making up my own math."

What happens if you bounce the file in your 32-bit floating system to a 24-bit file, impot it and apply 143 dB gain to that file?

Aside from that, who's working in a 24-bit fixed environment?

And aside from that, why would you ever need to do something like that?

Why are you here?

A professional troll is always at the ready to reply to any rebuttal, checking his threads every 20 minutes or so. This guy needs some work. Please go study Walters, jp22 and "The Man" (from rec.audio.pro).

I know jp22 and you, sir, are no jp22!
