Default PT9 setting up of Venom

Hi, I am brand new to home studio recording, I have PT9, running Windows 7, Mbox3pro.
I have the Axiom pro working, through USB connection (able to use plugin virtual instruments ie.mini grand, and as a control surface) but my problem is that I can't get my M-audio VENOM working in protools so I can use it as an outright synthesizer/instrument from which I can record the synth sounds it produces, I have tried getting it to be recognised through the USB connection and through the spdif connection on the Mbox3pro with no results, the drivers are installed, and along the way I have seen options to use the VENOM as a midi or a synth in peripheral options, would somebody be able to give me a step by step walkthrough on how to get it working. Like I said I'm brand new to this, so a lot of the familiar obvious PT9 options that get used I have no knowledge of, but I am so wanting to get good at it.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Filo,

That may not be detailed enough.

Smile Re: PT9 setting up of Venom

Aaron !!!!
THANKYOU SO MUCH !!!
I can now get sound into protools from my Venom, which in itself is a weight lifted off me, if you don't mind, I'd like to be able to get the Synth sound that you have currently allowed me to get, but in a midi signal, so that once it's been recorded into protools I can use the midi editor to work with the recorded track, (just like you can when you use the virtual instruments) I tried a few ideas like using the midi out from the Venom connected to the SPDIF connection on the MBoxpro but got no signal/sound, I also selected SPDIF stereo in the I/O input, and spdif stereo output, I'm thinking thats not the right way. Is it possible, or is the Venom going to act like a midi controller like an Axiom?
If there is an answer to getting it working, step by step again would be most appreciated.
Once again thankyou so much, I'm sure I'm not the only one that is going to benefit from your first posting.

I'm sure I'm not too far away from Step 18 !!
:)

edge, ummm... there is no digital I/O support. However with Pro Tools 9 and higher, Venom can be selected as a Playback Engine. Anyway, simply create a stereo Instrument track, assign Venom Synth In and Venom Synth Out in the MIDI Input and Output selectors, then assign the Instrument level Inputs you made for connecting Venom via TRS cables in the Instrument tracks Audio Input.

Heads up, Venom needs a fix due to it clock sync algorithm, thus Venom drift when synced via MBC. The only workaround is not to Slave Venom.

Hey Aaron,
I'm unsure how to do this part,"assign Venom Synth In and Venom Synth Out in the MIDI Input and Output selectors", where do I find that option ?

Filosofem,

I'm very new to pro tools (used to use audacity) and I just couldn't pass up the Venom. I signed up for the bulletin board just to say thanks for all of your helpful posts, both here and on you tube. They've been super helpful so that I can get this stuff set up and working. Because in the end it's all about the music, and this thing sounds killer.

Cheers
Mike
