Default CPU Spiking and Stopping Pro Tools

I've been having issues where I am working on a session, and the task manager shows that I'm in the 40% range of CPU usage. Suddenly, Pro Tools will spike, and give me the 'Pro Tools ran out of CPU power' message. I disabled turbo boost, and I went into the task manager and didn't allow Pro Tools to use the last CPU core or the last two CPU cores. These things did not work.

I'm on Windows 10 using an Intel i7-6700 CPU. I've also got 16 GB of ram. My buffer setting was increased to 1024 (the max I could go to with my Focusrite Scarlet 2i2).

Any ideas here? Thanks in advance!

Run on a supported software+pro tools+plugin configuration. Run with a larger IO buffer, check plugins are up to date, remove plugins in batches etc. to try to sort out which plugins are causing this, print or freeze VI tracks too reduce load (freeze requires you upgrade to Pro Tools 12). Is the computer fully optimized? *Every* last thing done? (I would bet it is not). Post a Sandra report....

If you are having a bunch of related issues it would be better to keep them in one thread. It's a waste of everybody's time going over stuff already covered.

Figured it out. This plugin was the problem:

Once removed, everything went back to normal.

Interesting. Was going to suggest it might be a plugin

Yeah, it was super weird. I didn't have a big session and certainly had the CPU headroom, but PT would randomly spike and stop. I took the plugin off and everything went back to normal!
