Recorded MIDI/Instrument track seen but won't play back

Just started using a USB-connected keyboard controller (M-AUDIO Keystation Pro 88) and the track I record to, both using a MIDI track or Instrument track, is heard live as I record it, and the track shows the recording notes, duration, etc. But in playback only a short click or very short transient note is heard and then cuts off at the start point of each note, no matter how sustained it is. Once and a while one or two notes will play, but randomly. The same ones never repeat. This happens with PT plugs like DB-33 and Mini Grand as well as Garritan GPO4 instruments. Trashed the prefs, no difference.

Any advice appreciated.

Are there Double Notes? Erasing the first note should reveal a underlying staccatissimo.

No double notes. When I said one or two notes play randomly I meant out of say, 20 notes played and recorded, one or two of them will randomly sound and all the rest will just be clicks. Just a brief atonal click at beginning of each note except when I use Mini Grand. Then it plays each individual note, but just as if I played it very staccato, even if I played it with sustain. If it's a chord it just plays one note from the chord.

Post your system notes. Any third party plug-in incompatibility? Can you isolate the Keystation Pro as a cause?

Mac Intel 2.6GHz w. 8GB ram
PT HD v8.0.4 (I just upgraded from 8.0.1 before installing Garritan GPO4, but the issue is with PT plugs (Mini Grand & DB-33) as well as GPO4.)

I would not think it's the Keystation since it triggers the samples accurately and records fine. It won't playback what is on the screen which is an accurate representation of what I played live and what I also heard live when I recorded it. If I also simultaneously buss it to a regular audio track it records and plays back fine as well. It's strictly a playback issue of the MIDI or Instrument track.

...and is this reproducible with a new session? You repaired permissions?

Yes, repaired permissions, no difference. New session, no difference.

This is interesting... If I double-click on the recorded MIDI track to get the MIDI editor window and move any note in any way, like to any other location from where it was originally recorded in the time line or to another pitch at the same time point it was recorded, it plays for the full duration of the note as it should and doesn't cut off right after the transient initial play point. If i move it back to it's original location it cuts off again.

Can you reproduce with another MIDI Controller?

Only have one keyboard. Can I enable my qwerty keyboard to trigger? But again, the Keystation Pro 88 seems to trigger samples correctly via USB when I record but won't play back properly so I doubt it's the keyboard. If I disconnect the keyboard after recording it still has the issue with what I recorded.

You could demo Chirp and if that works try a Key 88 Pro Factory Reset.
