AAE 6101 Errors

I just did something I said I wasn't going to do which was upgrade PT and my MBP when they came available. I figured if it's working properly just leave it alone. Well, last night I upgraded to 2018.1 and high Sierra and now I'm getting the 6101 error for no good reason so I checked here for help.

Man, you guys are the best! Thanks! I REALLY appreciate you folks that take the time to help those of us with issues as my problem seems to have gone away after unchecking the ignore errors box.

I'm an old guy that oughta be outside running the kids off my lawn yet I'm in here trying to learn a new OS (I swore off Windoze about 25 years ago but just bought my first Mac last May) and Protools plus a plethora of VI's and plugins. I've health issues so this is sloooooow going. Thanks yall!


FWIW I DO have some scratches and works in progress up on the youtubes. I'll post a link to one I'm told is really relaxing. Works for me... I'll prolly be learning all this til I die but I'm trying to write and record "mood music" for the most part. Wish I had some better pianos, orchestral VI's etc. but I have what I have til I win the lottery. I'm starting a new, pretty ambitious project maybe tomorrow and my plans are to actually finish and polish it but we'll see. Thanks again!

I have optimized my Mac, Buffer size is at 1024 samples, Cache Size is at 16GB and Dynamic Plug in is checked and I can play a song for 3 seconds before I get the AAE- 6101 error. It tells me to increase it, but I'm maxed out. Any other possible solutions?

Mac Pro needs to be 5,1 (or 4,1 with firmware upgrade to 5,1)
And if you are trying to do the 3,1 thing, you can't have the ATI graphics card; need the Nvidia graphics. Metal GUI uses Open CL and only the Nvidia graphics options on the 3,1 is supported for Open CL. Pro Tools 2018 uses Open CL.

and make sure you have the latest 003 drivers

Should I just go back to protools 12?

Yeah, pretty much. Or get a computer that meets the system specs. I would go to a version of 12 that doesn't require Metal GUI support (so to 12.8.1) After that version, they are taking advantage of resources your computer doesn't have.

Are there instructions on how to go to a previous version of protools? And thanks for the help!

Find the Peter Gate helper app
http://petegates.com/pg-pt-prefs.html
First delete the Pro Tools app from your Applications directory
Then run the Peter Gate pt prefs trasher app above and wipe everything
Then install the Pro Tools version of your choosing (you'll then need to re setup your preferences)
(you can leave your plugins alone)

My Avid account only shows PT 12.8.3 and nothing earlier. If I can't download 12.8.1 then looks like I'm stuck with this problem.

You can get to older ones.
On the first page of My Account, look to the right column for "Linked Avid Accounts" and "Avid Download Center." Link that to your account if you haven't. Then click on "Access Your Account" on that line and find Avid Pro Tools / Pro Tools HD. Then look at "Previous releases"

This is something new they did at the beginning of the year so you can access older software. It's a software repository.
