Default Getting samples from PT into synth/samp playback

If I have Digi001, PT LE 5.1, and Sample Cell II on a Mac G4 with IDE ata-100 cards except for a narrow SCSI with the CD-R/DVD-R, does the following hold water:

"In general it best to dedicate a external CD-ROM drive or hard drive to the synth/sample playback (Kurzweil K2600 or Roland XV 5080) would be ideal. Mac's really don't like to have another "master" device on the SCSI chain.

So I need an external CD-ROM to get sample CD data/sounds into a synth/keyboard that has a SCSI port for accepting samples? If so, what a p.i.t.a!

I never had any trouble sharing drives between windows and a k-2000. I even used the k-2000 to x-fer shareware files I had backed up on a SCSI drive to a floppy so I could install them on a PC w/out SCSI.

I think the only way to get introuble is to have the k-2000 and the PCs SCSI controller try to access a drive at the same time. It's definately problematic on the Mac side. You can probably find all the details in the FAQ of the k-2000 mailing list.

Here's a little more info for the PC types:

Gee, where's my brain?

I think both units mentioned above have SPDIF in/out.
