Default Early 2008 PT11 and mavericks

Has anyone been successful in installing and running PT 11.1, & Mavericks, on an early 2008 3,1 harper town mac pro?

I know that Avid says it's not 'supported', but if i could make it work for just a few more months…. I have to upgrade a few other programs, and would love to upgrade PT as well.

I've read on the supportpages that you could damage your HDX cards if installed in a Harpertown ! So think twice.
Same here ...me and my HDX cards are waiting for the new MacPro 6core

Thanks Mano… good to know.

Though, that being established, this is just for software based PT. No cards.

Thanks

it works.

Haven't spent much time in it so I can't speak about performance, but it launches!

Yep, no problems here on the same machine, albeit backup machine.

Thanks for the answers.

It's one of those things where I would like my home computer to match my work computer. Just to keep thinks the same, i wanted to upgrade, but don't want to spend on a new system unless i need to.

It's kinda cool if you think... a 6 year old computer working with the latest and greatest stuff... i'm happy!

I have an early 2008 Mac Pro. Dual quad core 12gb ram. 003 black lion audio mod, and non HD pro tools. I've always kept everything up to date osx and pro tools, third party plugins etc. since using PT11 on mountain lion ie 64bit operating system and 64bit pro tools and plugins, the performance of my mac seems to have struggled, rather like going jogging with a back back full of bricks!.. My workflow suffered and recording drum takes, PT would crash half way through a take which is as irritating as it gets. I reformatted my start up drive and put snow leopard 10.6.8, and installed PT10 and 32 bit versions plugins back on my system. Everything running smooth again with no issues. I'm convinced that PT 11 on 64bit operating system is asking a bit too much of my 2008 Mac Pro, this is my experience. Workflow is paramount, and I'll be staying on this system until I am forced to upgrade my mac, then I will look into getting latest versions of pro tools. etc.

Yep, no issues here with MacPro 3,1 (22GB, MacOSX.9.3, ProTools HD11, HD Native, CoreAudio via RME UFX)... Works a treat, however, have the same bugs, everyone else discussing of course.
