Here's a link to that thread: https://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?...73#post2597473

This to the last post; there's like 48 pages to go through. There's two files - one b y me and another by Macsearcher; I think mine's better and there are some screenshots in the thread. I'd suggest taking some time to go through the thread.

I've been on 20H2 since it was released in the insider channel without issue. Not recommending that, but I've been on 20H2 since June 2020 and whatever version of Pro Tools was current at that time.

Uncheck only the first 2 cores, labeled as 0 & 1. Leave the rest checked.

Just tried that , it's far , far worse !! see attached i can't hit play !

What i dont understand is when you uncheck a core on Windows task manager , it seems that nothing is happening in Protools .

Last time i unchecked 10 /16 cores , i saw only 2 cores (with 0% or 1%) but all others were active (in pro tools)

Thanks - that's what I needed to seer. Looks like Avid used some of what I did. From what I can see so far they left the title bars and floating window bars the stock color unlike what I did and made them other than greyish.

Default 2021.3

Well that was fun installing this latest version. Thought I would throw up my experience.

The instructions say you HAVE to uninstall any prior version as well as the HD driver on Win 10 x64. I tried just using the Avid Link install but no go. It wouldn't upgrade even though it appeared to go through the process. Why don't the programmers learn how to auto uninstall the previous version instead of requiring a manual uninstall.

So, I tried manually uninstalling but the uninstall button was greyed out in the apps & features section of Windows. Assuming some process is still running in the background which would not allow Protools to uninstall.

If you do a search you can find the Microsoft uninstall assist program which will find any uninstall issues and correct them. Additionally it will successfully remove the troublesome program. That worked and Protools was removed. The Avid link app is also removed in this process so logging into the Avid site for the latest rev was required. After installing PT manually everything worked.

Seriously though, many software companies know how to upgrade their apps and automatically uninstall prior versions. Somebody needs to go to a Microsoft class and learn the process.

Is it being suggested that the AIR plugins are, or might, be responsible for these random CPU spikes? Are we talking about the instruments (Velvet, etc.), or the effects (AIR Chorus, etc.), or both?

I still get these spikes, and I still keep AIR plugins in my Plugins folder. I don't think I've ever experimented with losing them. I don't really use them so no sweat off my teeth if this is the case.

I've never experienced theses pikes in Pro tools 10 . It started with 12 and the latest version yesterday does the same result . It can be with Air effects or even any other plugins. All my CPU are under 10%, 15% with some of them under 3% . The problem is the " total bar" which can spikes from 20 to 100 suddenly .

When i start a project , sometimes it's ok . I can wait 3,4 mins before spikes , but other times , it appears after only 30 secs .
