Default Cannot get midi in or out of Pro Tools

I'm using a MBox 2 Mini running 8.0.5. on a PC using Win 7. I am trying to get midi out of my pro tools session to run midi hardware. I have a midisport 1X1 and a Motu Fastlane and both are working fine. Both will show up in my IN and OUT on the midi channel and in my input devices but I cannot get midi into or out of Pro Tools. There is no trigger light on either unit (I've only used one at a time to try and get it to work). I did get midi in for a short while but that's disappeared now. It's as if a midi message cannot get to the usb buss on my pc. I have tried different usb ports too and nothing changes.
