Default What's the most current and stable PT/OSX combo?

I'm still running OSX 10.8.3 and PT 10.3.5. It's been stable the past year, but OSX 10.8.3 is starting to show compatibility issues with other apps that are being updated.

I'm thinking about upgrading my OS and PT and am wondering what the last stable combo is?

Or is there a good stable version of PT 11 and OSX? I have a license for PT 11, I've just been reluctant to use it until it's stable for sure. And of course, I don't relish the whole upgrade headache of tracking down all my plug-ins and virtual instruments.

Hi

We run PT11HD 11.2.1 on Mac Pro 10.8.5 and that is very stable and works great.

We also have 2 Macbook Pro Retinas, one with 10.8.5 and one with 10.9.3 and both have PT11HD on them. Runs perfect there aswell and have not had any issues other than user errors

So if you wanna be 10000000% sure I would stay on 10.8.5 with PT11 as it is the most stable if we go by members posts here.

Also know that PT10 is not supported if you go Mavericks as the unistaller is wack so you can't unistall as you normally do but if you are only using PT11 10.9.3 is working and is supported by Avid aswell

Best Regards
Christopher

My recommendation(regardless of what combo you go with), buy a new hard drive and clone your current system drive to the new drive. Then remove the system drive and install the clone. Now, try updating and see what happens. If it goes sour, stick the original drive in, and go back to work. If it goes great, after, say 3 months of smooth sailing, clone over the old drive(giving you a backup in case of any issue that might arise, from a virus, to a bad update, all the way up to a complete system drive crash

For sure, that is the way to do it.

Thanks Christopher. I'll have to start checking on my plugins to see if they all have AAX (or at least the ones I like to use). Is there a version of PT 10 that is pretty stable with OSX 10.8.5? Will PT 10.3.5 run well?

IMO, the most stable PT11 setup is PT 11.2.1 & PSX 10.9.4 -- miles better than any other PT11 combination so far.

And in regards to the PT10 question, the absolute BEST revision is PT 10.3.8 if you want to run OSX 10.8.5. Not the latest 10.3.9 as there are a few issues reported with that version so for PT10 go with the 10.3.8 version

And as Jfreakey said, Both 10.9.3 and 10.9.4 works great with PT11 but if you want to combo install both 10/11 you are better off staying put on OSX 10.8.5

If you ever have to work with AAF files, use 10.3.7 instead. There is an AAF bug in v10.3.8 and later that has yet to be fixed.

Thanks everyone. I think I'm going to upgrade to OSX 10.8.5 and then do the co-install. I don't work with AAF files, but I may just stay at 10.3.7 to be safe.

Does anyone have a link to a thread or instructions on how to do the co-install? Or is it as simple as updating PT to 10.3.7 and then downloading and putting PT11 in my applications folder.

Do I have to uninstall anything?

Will PT 11 do anything to my plugins that are not yet AAX and that I use a lot in PT 10? That's the can of worms I'm not yet ready to open.

I did a little digging and read that I have to uninstall my current version of PT before installing 10.3.7. Is that right? That must be why I didn't do it back when it came out. If I do that, will all my plugins, plugin settings, and virtual instruments also be deleted and need to be re-installed?

The avid site is so ridiculous. I found this page:
http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...ll-Information

But when I follow the links to find out the STEPS to the co-install, I am just led in a circle, never arriving at the information. There is even a link at the bottom of the page to the current page itself. Thank god that was there.
