Default partitioning a 2 TB or seperate drive to record?

I just got a 27 in imac with a 2 TB drive. can i partition it and use pt 10 and record to the partitions, or do i need to use my firewire drive to record to.
It will be in a chain with my 003. Or any suggestions ?
My imac is last years model, but it has Mountain Lin on it.
I have a Snow Leopard OS as well, which should I use?
Does ML work with PT 10 yet ?
As this is a new mac, i don't have my PT 8 on it. Do i need it installed to download PT 10 ?
Thanks
RG

Yo need a separate drive not a partition. ML is approved for PT10. Make sure you use the latest PT update and drivers. You may have to experiment with the order of the devices on the FW chain. I would go iMac>FW Drive>003 first and see how it works . You may need a FW800 to FW400 adapter.

Is there a preferred 400 to 800 fire wire adapter? I read some do not work.
Thanks

Belkin seems to work well. You can get them at Guitar Center and maybe even Best Buy.

In your situation, since you have last years Imac, you have Thunderbolt. You should get the Apple Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter ($29). Use that for your 003, and put the audio drive on the FW800 port. That way they're on two different busses with no daisy chaining issues.

And when you get the PT10 upgrade, it's a full installer. No need to first install your older version of Protools.
