DAE Error 35 and crashing on "Open Session"
Here's another fun one...
2008 Core 2 Duo iMac, 2G ram. Audio on an Iomega 1TB Firewire drive. Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and official Snow Leopard PT patch 8.0.3. During playback on a very light session (a few Xpand plugs) I will get a DAE 35 error during playback after a few minutes of work. Shortly afterwards, PT will probably crash. Often (75% of the time) when I open PT and select "open session" I will get pinwheel of death / crash instead of getting the dialogue box to browse for the session I would like to open. The most disturbing thing is that with both of these crashes, after I force quit PT it will quickly take down the rest of my system. If I try to do anything with any other open app (usually safari, text edit) they will each crash as well. Once I've force quite everything (including finder, as it will usually crash too) when I go to restart the computer, everything will disappear except my desktop picture, as if it's about to restart, and it'll stay there infinitely until I hold down the power button to shut it off. So frustrated with trying to get Pro Tools to behave with Snow Leopard. Anyone get any ideas? Thanks. -Nick |

Re: DAE Error 35 and crashing on "Open Session"
By the way, Mbox 2 mini.
I reinstalled PT, which ran flawlessly for about 1/2 an hour before encounting more DAE Error 35s and other nonsense. I copied the session to my system drive (which I know is not recommended) and tried to work on it from there, and beyond a few more playback errors and expected side effects of running off the system drive, it was great. So I'm now suspicious of my Iomega MiniMax 1TB. It's a 7200 RPM drive connected with Firewire 400. It's about a week old, and I reformatted it twice after I got it, just to make sure. Any ideas here? -Nick |

Re: DAE Error 35 and crashing on "Open Session"
What FW chip are you using and what chip on the drive side. For the computer chipset it works best with TI chipsets, and I have heard of issues with the controller in certain FW drives but unfortunately I am unsure right now what are the better ones.

Re: DAE Error 35 and crashing on "Open Session"
I'm doubting it's my computer's firewire chipset, because I have an old 75 gig external drive that I've been running audio off with no problem for years.
Come to think of it, how do I check my chipset? It's not in the system profiler. I've read about people using these drives with PT before, so if it is a firewire issue it's not widespread. -Nick |

Re: DAE Error 35 and crashing on "Open Session"
I don't use a mac anymore and it's been way to long to remember. I just figured I would mention it because I had a lot of problems on my laptop with firewire and pro tools. Other programs worked ok, but PT needed that TI chipset. I just figured I would mention it so you can cover all your bases. Someone else im sure will chime in.

Maybe this will come in handy. Also, did you trash all databases?

Re: DAE Error 35 and crashing on "Open Session"
well good luck, If I encounter a fix, or suggestion I'll pass it on., oh and some stuff stays behind, like the digi database stuff, I won't pretend to know everything about it but you could use the mac database pref trasher as a start anyway.

Re: DAE Error 35 and crashing on "Open Session"
Little update here in case anyone is having the same issues...
Every time PT crashes due to the above stated issues, this appears prominently in the crash log: /System/Library/CoreServices/AirPort Base Station Agent.app/Contents/MacOS/AirPort Base Station Agent Not sure what AirPort is trying to do, since I have it switched off while I use PT, but it seems to relate to the crashes. -Nick |
