Can't redo

So I've seen this problem occasionally in the past, where I undo a take and then I wanna hit redo to compare the takes, but I can't! Redo is completely greyed out and not an option. And today, while I was recording vocals, it was pretty much a consistent problem the whole time!

I always figured maybe redo is not an option after you hit save, but this was not the case here. In fact, I would record a take, and just to be safe, instead of hitting apple+z to undo, I would use the pulldown menu, and I would see both undo and redo available then. But then after undoing, redo was suddenly not available.

Could the problem be that I had my playback buffer too low (like 256) since I was trying to avoid latency? Does that leave me not enough room for those sort of luxuries? (I was running a pretty full session with many midi tracks/software instruments and convolution verbs.) Because I was also noticing some display errors with the waveform not showing up for half a take, etc., but the audio would still be there. Very bizarre.

I have also seen this but I don't know what is the reason.
