problem 003 rack
Friends please help
When I plug in a microphone static or dynamic input signal is very low, even with the gain max.. Sound card volume too must be kept I noticed a broken transistor or diode When completely destroyed beyond recognition. Thanks for help |

Re: problem 003 rack
Are you absolutely certain you aren't plugging the MIC into the LINE input? (Sounds like that's exactly what's happening.) Just becuase it fits, doesn't mean it goes there. Mics put out around .007 volts, but a line input needs to "see" around 1.3 volts. So if you have the mic plugged into the line input, of course it won't have enough level.

Re: problem 003 rack
That's showing a surface mount part but exactly what's up with it is impossible to tell because of the glare off the circuit board. How that part got broken (if indeed that's the part in question) without some kind of intervention is beyond me. If it was broken in assembly that would have shown up on testing at the factory. I've worked with enough surface mount parts to know how these things can break. If the 003R took enough of a shock to break this then there's other things that won't work right. If someone dropped something inside the 003 - that's another story altogether.

Diode d 19 (or transistor) on-board preamps broken. Not recognized. Code snippets, you know?

Re: problem 003 rack
As someone who's spent a good deal of time dealing with surface mount parts I have to ask/say again: how on Earth did this break? It wouldn't break on it's own and if it was broken from the factory it would have been picked up in final test. Also there's nothing on the part to tell what that part is - any lettering/numbering on the part is only for the factory to know what the part is. Without that knowledge there's no way to tell exactly what the part is. Diodes and transistors are not universal and can't be replaced with a part that looks similar. And without the right kind of soldering equipment you'll only tear up the board or ruin other parts.
Unlike through-hole parts surface mount parts are not very tolerant to high heat when soldering. Further how did you track your 'problem' down to this part? What test equipment did you use? |

Re: problem 003 rack
So what happened? Did you drop something in there to break this or what? The question I keep asking his - how did this break?

Re: problem 003 rack
I'm not broken. I do not know why. I cleaned up the grid failure. Maybe this help.

Re: problem 003 rack
In a situation like this, how could one find out about this particular part's specs ? Would this require a service manual that only authorized repair centers have access to? or they're documented somewhere?
Also, is it possible that NOT ALL digi003s use the same exact Diode? I'm no technician...just trying to help the guy. |
