Automating time compression/expansion?
Hello everyone,
Does anyone know of a way to have time compression/expansion automate and change during playback? I'm doing sound design work for a theater which involves many unorthodox, or at least non-musical, sound effects. Specifically, I'm trying to simulate the sound of a 45RPM record (remember those?) that has been shut off while playing, so the pitch AND speed would drop off until gone. If anyone has a good idea for a technique, I'd be much obliged. I'm running PTLE 7.1 on 002R Thanks! AudioBob |

Re: Automating time compression/expansion?
Serato PitchnTime has that kind function. You can try the demo version and see if it works for you. You might also give the D-Fi package from Digidesign a try. VariFi is in that package and it will do speed-up and slow-down effects like you're describing.

Re: Automating time compression/expansion?
I used an effect like that in a session not long ago. I played with the speed knob on the Digidesign Reel Tape Delay and with Ohm Force Ohmicide. I guess Ohmicide didn't really have much to do with that effect, but it [bleep] it all up even nicer

Re: Automating time compression/expansion?
If you know anyone with a tabletop cd DJ system then use that and record it into pro-tools (it replicates that effect). Thats what i do, its fast and easy.

Re: Automating time compression/expansion?
Thanks for all the good suggestions. It seems Vari-Fi in the D-Fi bundle works to my liking.

Re: Automating time compression/expansion?
I've used the poor man's version ("Look ma, no plug ins") for some tweaked out similar effects. I imported the audio on a track, then using a separate unit, recorded myself scrubbing the track. I imported the "processed" audio back in.

Re: Automating time compression/expansion?
You can always bring it into a sampler and then use the pitch bend function. I use the NN-19 in Reason because the price is right.

jk audio piczer, on this page. You'll need to install Pluggo Runtime.
