How is Avid invested in AVB? I’m not aware of anything they do using that protocol. I’m fact, the MTRX and new Studio have Dante, so....

Avid picked up Dante but it was in MTRX already from DAD. I have no idea how much Avid wanted that or if it just came along for the ride at no effort. They were more involved in AVB in S3L and that came from the live audio world but Avid seems to have dropped the low end of those products but AVB is very much a part of S6L product line. So who knows. Personally I used to be more interested in AVB... but Dante has done well expanding support.

The fact that AVB is in the S3 stand alone surface I would not pay too much attention to... it's really a hold over from the S3L.

Yeah, the S6L and S3L (and even earlier VENUE) use AVB. Presumably a sunk cost for Avid. Were they to build a networked DSP platform, then I reckon they're more likely to use AVB than Dante for host to DSP connectivity. Dante makes sense for when you need to interface with the outside world.

Are you all following the Hybrid Engine news? Looks like HDX is going to get a lot more powerful next year. I mix Natively now, but if you look at Carbon, you'll see how the existing HDX cards could be adapted for a much better Native/DSP balance.

Yeah, Hybrid sounds like it's the solution to the expanded voice count issue that never worked reliably on HDX. Makes a lot of sense given CPU vs DSP performance, particularly if you spend more time mixing than tracking. Hopefully its release for ordinary HDX users is not combined with being forced onto a subscription.
