Stalls on startup - Setting up I/O paths...
Every time Pro Tools launches, it flies through the initialization until it gets to:
Setting up I/O paths... Bus 127-128 Here it stalls on every startup for about 30-45 secs before continuing on just fine. Edit: Pro Tools 10.3.2 |

10.3.2? Mine also pauses at that point.

Same problem here, this is an absolute JOKE considering the price of this software.

Re: Stalls on startup - Setting up I/O paths...
I agree with the last post, pro tools is the shonkiest piece of software I have ever loaded. It's complete crap in my view. I get the same issue and I'd love to know how to fix it.

Re: Stalls on startup - Setting up I/O paths...
You guys crack me up(TheSmackPanda and JamesClark1991). You come here and slag a product that you barely have a clue about and expect to be taken seriously?! Both of you need to chill out, and sit back, and try learning. It starts with closing your mouths, and opening your minds. Take it from someone that knows PT very well, and makes a living using it. Any software that is as capable, will take some time to load. If you find it too long, try using an SSD for a system drive. Sure, PT used to open faster in older versions....when it had a lot fewer features, buses and tracks. If PT ain't your cup or tea, try Cubase Before you jump ugly on me, take a look at the number of posts you have, and then look at the number I have. And then, bite your tongue, because any "snappy retort" will be for naught. People come to the DUC to LEARN, to EDUCATE, to ASK for help, and to OFFER help(when someone has something to offer). Sorry to vent, but sometimes...............

Re: Stalls on startup - Setting up I/O paths...
Jakorsme, I'm serious. That 45 seconds is annoying, and I know your time is valuable. In my case, my entire start-boot each day is about 6 minutes. I go brush my teeth, or comb what's left of my hair, or tell my wife I love her.
Then for hours and hours, I leave it on, and I go from PT file to PT file in about 1.5 minutes. I come and go, & my little Presario is waiting there for me whenever I need it. I checked my electric bill, calculated my amperage, and found it costs me about $0.22 to run my little computer all friggin' day. (My electric heater costs me $1.07, but my aforementioned wife wants me to live another day so she accepts this.) Usually I turn my computer off when I go to bed. I've come to accept the start-up time as a minor annoyance on my way to happier accomplishments. Please reach deep, & you can do it too. As I said, I'm serious. JUX |

Re: Stalls on startup - Setting up I/O paths...
Mine only pauses for a few seconds with the bus display. PT10 loads much faster than previous versions for me (7, 8 & 9), so I'm not complaining. I've heard of and experienced some weird things happening with the busses in 10 though, but it's not a show-stopper.

Re: Stalls on startup - Setting up I/O paths...
I used to get annoyed by the startup time too, until one day someone here gave me the right advice (which I tried without even thinking it would work, but it really did).
My problem was not only that hang at loading the last bus, but also that ProTools was reading all the list of plugins (I could see them one by one in the startup splash screen). Whenever I needed to restart ProTools it was a real pain (installing new plugins, releasing memory or whatever), I knew I could leave my sit to grab a cup of coffee and it would still be loading when I was back. All I had to do to solve it was to exclude Avid/Digidesign folders from my antivirus realtime scan paths (I use Microsoft Security Essentials). I don't know if it's about excluding only one specific folder, I did it with all Avid/Digidesign folders that I found in: C:\Program files C:\Program files (x86) C:\Program files\Common files C:\Program files (x86)\Common files ..and really, like magic, the startup time became really fast. I no longer can see each plugin being read (they load so fast that I see a few only). Try that with whatever antivirus you're using. Maybe it will be your solution too. HTH Francisco
