Default sync of pro tools m-powered 7.4 to logic 8

hi,

i have pro tools running on my pc, xp, core 2 quad machine with an m-audio delta 1010lt card, i am looking to sync it up with logic on my mac book pro, which has a m-audiop 1814 firewire card. I have been exploring the various options for this and have so far got no where. i can lock the two cards together using coaxial spdif, but havent managed to slave either program yet as i want to use logic as an instrument.

any suggestions on the different methods, my cards both have; spdif, word clock, and midi in and outs

make sure you put pro tools online to allow it to sync (whether it is the master or slave). It's option+space on a mac, so I think that would translate to alt+space on a PC. Once it's online (flashing in transport window), just hit play (spacebar) normally.

Thats usually my mistake. I get everything right but forget that.

Could be way off here, but:
I'm not sure about using spdif for transport/position reference. Its been a long time (about 7 years) since I've had to sync equipment, but I don't remember spdif having that capability (or word clock either). While they are both clock sources and should lock, it is a digital (bit) lock, not a positional lock. I think for master/slave type work you'll need MTC or LTC.

Maybe someone else can confirm?

Which version of Pro Tools and Logic are you using?

Do you want Pro Tools or Logic to be the master?

You are correct. S/PDIF doesn't carry any kind of location reference. The only thing it will do is bypass a couple of A/D & D/A conversions on it's way back and forth.

To the OP: If you're only using Logic for the software instruments, why lock up the sequencers at all? MTC through a MIDI cable isn't the optimum setup anyway. Set up Logic as an external "synth" and just trigger MIDI notes. I actually use Logic 7 as a software synth in my studio too.

to digi, i would prefer pro tools to be the master but will go either way, i am using both the latest version of logic 8 and pro tools 7.4 m powered although i will update to 8 when it comes out

to mdog i am gonna give the midi trigger mode a go and see if its a viable way to work
