If I told my post clients I used LUNA , they'd all laugh, and then leave, there'd go all my income.......waste of time.......get a stable version of protools, fix it in a machine, and earn real money, for YEARS

^ I doubt that very much. Seems over dramatic. If you rely on protools as your core DAW because thats what everyone is using in your circle of business then stay put. If you don't have a circle & just pump out individual mixes of your own or from client's stems/clips then I'd give her a crack m8.

Paid promotion or not, that's not what Jacquire is saying, see here.

Either he is a liar or he is actually moving away from Pro Tools. I personally believe him and agree with what he says about Pro Tools and indeed LUNA.

UA are just as high-handed with their users as Avid are. If you want to get away from the lack of responsiveness for bug fixes and features that Avid displays, UA isn't the place to go. It's a big (and effective) marketing machine for their plug-ins.

Understood. LUNA is 'free' but will cost you an arm and a leg!

That said, as a non UAD user it makes their offerings far more attractive with the inclusion of a free DAW. Sure, it is still early days but things are looking promising. For existing UAD users it is a no brainer to give it a serious work out.

Pro Tools by comparison is an old house which keeps adding new extensions. Sure, it is attractive in many respects but in other ways it is full of damp, rot and other issues which keep surfacing and need attention. Sure, we love it but a new build might be even more attractive all round to live in.

Granted, some fully commercial facilities and post houses might need to stick with Pro Tools but for many others there are increasingly more attractive and cheaper options.

I saw that whole 7hr live stream and nowhere does J say he is moving away from Pro Tools. And comparing Luna with PT is a joke! Luna has alot of ”rot” as you call it and is not gonna be a alternative for a long time.

We use Live10 Suite with their Push2 for productions of VI etc but still record on 2” 24track tape and PT as there is nothing that works as PT does for tracking and mixing sadly. Live is crap and the rest of them are nothing we would ever try. Again sadly.

If you click on the second link I provided you hear Jacquire say this

"So, what we're looking at now is the session as it was brought over from Pro Tools to LUNA. I really love mixing in LUNA now. I am slowly making my way over to completely switching over to that platform, because sonically I love it. It's a really good intuitive tool. It has a little bit of growing to do but Pro Tools is not all the way after all these years either. It's a really lovely sounding format."

It couldn't be clearer. He is fed up with Pro Tools and switching to LUNA for both mixing and recording.

Whatever. Switching DAW for sonical reasons is just as beneficial than painting your Ferrari black in terms of getting more speed.

Just an update, I came back to update-land last month!

So I was out of the loop for a bit over a year. After waiting on the M1X/M2 I decided to plump for the Mac mini when the new MacBook Pros we announced.

With the Mac on order, I saw a bargain for a new Pro Tools perpetual and 12 months updates that I couldn't pass on, especially considering I had saved £200 on passing on the updates for a year. I installed it on my venerable MacBook Pro i7 and was well impressed. Not only the new features but the clearly quicker response and stability.

So now the mini has arrived and it is smoking! All the plugins are working well so far (save an issue with Phoenix II which I have to roll back to a previous version to get running). The latest version has some good improvements too. I'm not getting the Komplete Kontrol S88 Mk1 doing transport duties at all but no drama.

So all in all I'm enjoying Pro Tools again, especially now it is running on the M1.
