Default Re: M-powered pro will end ?????

I for one have M-Audio Firewire 410 and can not afford to get another Audio device.

If Digidesign decides to not release any more M-Powered Protools.
then I would have no choice but to wind up getting another software other than Protools.
and not buy another digidesign product ever again.

Because I just wasted my money to get this.
To then be forced by Digidesign to purchase another product, because they don't want to support or release
Protools M-Powered any longer. I will just buy another kind of music software all together.

I was also told by Protools Product specialist from 3 different location stores
that LE is one step below M-Powered.
And thats the reason why I got the M-Powered.
Because it was not the light editon, but it was the closest to HD as I can get.

And When I asked them what did LE stand for, I was told it stands for
"Light Edition" which is lower step than M-Powered.
I was also told by these product specialist in the stores, that M-Powered has
more features than the LE "Light Edition" and functions better than the LE..

And the order of the products goes as follows:
1. - Protools HD
2. - Protools M-Powered
3. - Protools LE "Light Edition"

Now 3 different people told me this from 3 different stores.
If they lied to me, there is going to be serious problems in those stores.

One thing I really hate the most, is when a seller in a music store
sells me something and lies to me about the product just so they can make a sale.
I walk into these music stores and expect professionals to be professionals and not lie to
me just so they can make sales and money off of me just to move products.

There is some sort of trust musicians have when they walk into a Musicians store.
and suppose to get the correct information and products without being lied to.

I just purchased my M-Powered Protools not too long ago
If they don't support it any longer, that means I wasted my money.
and it will seriously piss me off.

I don't think it was a matter of that they lied to you, but more that they don't know what they are talking about. I don't think I've ever been to a music place where I didn't know more than any worker in there. PT LE is better than M-Powered (in my opinion) because there is room for advancement with their toolkits and video options that M-Powered doesn't have at all. There are many upgrades you can get for LE and NOT for M-Powered. They are basically the same program but LE is more expandable. The sellers didn't know what they were talking about. On that note, I don't think they will just "do-away" with M-Powered customers and not give them an upgrade path to LE. That just sounds ridiculous and if that did happen there would be many angry people. Me, being one of them. I would much rather have LE anyway working with my Profire 2626 than M-Powered cause I would like to use the Post Production features that you can get with LE.

I like my M-Powered. I will never ever go to LE.
the only next step I would take would be HD from M-Powered.
M-Powered has always given me inspiration to move to HD.
Only thing is HD is too expensive for me.

And also I have no more PCI slots available for the PCI cards anyways.

And As a Remixer in Dance Music, M-Powered is perfect for me.
I never have the need to record guitars or other stuff.
Just vocals and VSTi's and instruments from Reason.
and a few loops if I need them, and thats it.

Then it sounds like Ableton would be the best program for you. Specifically made around that style and electronic music with no limitations that M-Powered has. Easier workflow also in my opinion. Also, why would you not go LE? Especially if they offered as a free upgrade? They are nearly exactly the same, if you don't want to purchase the toolkits then that's your option.

I dont think you will have to worry about this. I think what is being talked about here is merging LE and M-Powered into 1 product. The goal would be to allow your M Audio interface the ability to run LE software, thus eliminating the confusion between LE and M-Powered.

M-audio is avid; it says so at the top left of this page http://www.m-audio.com/

Notice the win an Eleven Rack interface on the page too (Eleven Rack comes with LE hmmm.... why)

Secondly; I think LE will become M-powered; the M-powered brand is more widely recognized by everyone IMO;

Mackie's console working with M-powered; I don't think it's a jailbreak/hack.

Who knows? Both may continue to exist.

Bottom line; M-powered isn't going anywhere; M-audio hardware/software outsells LE hardware/software by huge margins.

Ask them how many tracks you'll get from the Complete Production Toolkit 2; Answer = none. On Protools LE 128 Tracks.

Ask if there is 7.1 surround sound mixing capability; answer = none; PTLE yes.

Complete production toolkit 2 also comes with dv toolkit 2 and digitranslator, ask the salespeople how much the complete production toolkit costs for m-powered; answer = nothing. It's not available for M-powered.

Do you need this? Probably not; fact is LE has more expansion possibilities. I'd stop going to those retailers......

I just wish someone from Avid would jump in here and make some sort of comment,at least that would stop all the speculation.

Or are we having to wait for a bells and whistles announcement at NAMM.

It looks like the source of speculation is simply that Sweetwater is no longer selling PT M Powered 7. 8 is till available. How that turned into a rumor that M-Powered will be discontinued, I don't know.

Whether or not the two products will eventually be merged depends on why MP was lacking certain features in the first place. It could be a technical or software reason, but I doubt it. It was probably more of a business decision to keep PT LE hardware in the game. And if that's the case, I don't see a merge happening.

Alan; you worry too much. M-powered is not going anywhere.

@LSW:

I'm not crazy on any of the LE interfaces; never liked them (I owned an 002r)

I do have my eye on the M-audio profire 2626; god forbid no more M-powered; i'd still be able to use this interface with every other pc daw.
