What about RAM... not just how much, but the type used.

CAS latency... registered/buffered... the various differences in brands?

Noise blasts whilst opening a session this morning session hadn't even finished opening. Once opened, I can see the noise is blasting from a reverb return (Revibe II 5.1) delay comp is off. I don't think my problem has anything to do with pressing play or stop as it's happening randomly in play or stop here.

Just got another one out of the clear blue sky. Been working on this session for the past week without a blast, and just now in the middle of the day it happened. Full blast on an Altiverb 5.0 Aux (that didn't have anything sent to it at that moment). Went on for several seconds, then stopped.

Thanks Avid.

I think there are a number of fault-states pro tools can enter into, and it's response seems to be to throw out full-scale noise. Completely and utterly unacceptable.

Please make sure to contact Avid support support and let them know this and give them the relevant info and/ or fill out the form. They have to know it is not just a case of fixing one specific trigger for the issue, but removing the possibility of these noise blasts all together.

Ok, so I was able to get the blasts in Protools 12.4 with both Win 7 and OSX(10.11.1).
What I found was I had to wait until 59 secs for the blast to happen reliably.
But if ADC is checked off, the clipping disappeared.

I checked if using low latency monitoring had an effect... it didn't seem to.
So, when you're tracking with headphones make sure ADC is off.

But since people are having issues without even touching the space bar or having ADC off, it all may be a crap-shoot!

At this point, play it safe. Slow down... give your system time to catch up.
Listen at low volumes... avoid headphones when you can.

What else can we do?
Wait for bug free software?
Never gonna happen!

As a test, I loaded the original session, created two mono aux tracks, and moved the plug-ins. I wasn't able to get the system to blast.

I use aux tracks in many of my sessions.
Could this explain why some users rarely have issues with noise blasts?

So I've been using pro tools 11 & 12 for quite a while now and never experienced this on my Saffire Pro 40.

I recently bought an RME 802, and have been experiencing these noise bursts on heavy sessions, dependant on plugins I use.

Ex: VBC on my mixbus seems to be a BIG culprit. I'll listen to the track, get toward the end of the song and click on the ruler to start playback from an earlier point and BOOM, then silence. My output/master meter is slammed and bypassing the plugin brings back the sound. The meter within VBC is also pinned down at this point.

Removing VBC helps, but doesn't complete eliminate the pops when starting/pausing playback. This was never an issue with my saffire 40.

At this point I'm really scared to bust my monitors. This is beyond stupid.

its almost like they're gonna have to halt everything, and solve this once and for all, cause if there are numbers of people with ear damage(real or whatever)....you know what 'll happen......call saul comes to mind...

Hahaha Better Call Saul !! Season 2 is finally set to air on AMC.

I wonder who mixes that show, because it's one of the different kind of sound scapes....a lot of space in between the sounds

So..had a small session yesterday...everything going fine until I started some dense automation on a track. PT erupted with a huge blast that scared the living hell out of me (and the clients).

Nothing new to report other than it started happening right after I had written volume automation on a track.
