Default Corrupted WAV file

Upon re-opening a session I'd worked on only an hour beforehand, I was confronted by the Missing Files dialogue - one mono vocal file was missing. It had played back perfectly only an hour beforehand. Upon searching, it looked to be present in Finder and the workspace window, but was now unreadable by PT. I'd even backed up the session by dragging onto another drive when I'd worked on it earlier, but that copy too was unreadable. Tried importing the audio file - didn't initially get the familiar message that it was unreadable by PT, but it was showing no info such as duration, channels, bit depth and sample rate, and it wouldn't import. Logic can't read it, nor can Sound Forge on a PC, so I guess it's lost forever. Would like to know what caused the corruption though...

I'm afraid no luck with that. Tried on two different PCs, Windows 7 64 bit (and in compatability modes for XP and W98SE) and on a PC with XP SP3, and on both the program always immediately crashes when I hit the Repair button (showing 0 bytes processed!)

You could try Audacity. It has an Import>Raw Data function. Choose the file and set the appropriate attributes (bit depth, endianness, sample rate). I've been able to recover the audio from corrupted files with this.

Or just use my correct app...

Use the app I posted to repair the file(s) (in that thread).

http://www.railjonrogut.com/downloads/WavFixer.dmg.zip

This will fix the WAV files which have lost their FMT chunk.

You may select multiple files and need to tell the program the sample rate and resolution of the files.

It will create a copy of the bad file and then repair the copy - it will not allow the source and destination folders to be the same.
