questions regarding loops and rough mixes
question 1)
lets say you have a 1 bar drum loop and a 355 bar song. is it neccessary to go through the whole song, pasting a loop at every bar? is there some kind of shortcut to tell protools "play this loop every bar for 355 bars" ? question 2) say you want to give a rough mix of a song to a musician who has just played on it. is bounce to disk the only option? what if you havent started working out automation stuff yet but you need to mute things in certain places or move levels around while mixing? have people had success running wavelab or some other 2-track recording program at the same time as protools to record a mix? could anyone reccomend a good (instructional) book for intermediate/advanced protools users? thanks all, -tim |

Re: questions regarding loops and rough mixes
1. first copy/paste then use "repeat" (edit/repeat) or alt+R .
2. yep.. bounce to disk ist the only option.. if u have to mute ,u have to do and automation, or del. the part u dont want in the mix. 3. I dont think its posible ( I could be wrong) 4 the manual is actually quit good Brian Uller denmark

Re: questions regarding loops and rough mixes
1.Highlite the loop, hit Alt/R...enter 355...Hit Enter.
2.Yes, 'Bounce to Disk' is the only way I know to make a rough. You could just solo the tracks (including his) that matter on a rough mix, if you don't have time to Automate what you want.

Re: questions regarding loops and rough mixes
hey, i have heard of people recording into a different program at the same time for the very same reason you are wanting to. just use your main outputs and go into a different sound card. you could use your onboard card, or get a better one. that would come in handy if you want to run Reason or other soft-synth programs at the same time as PT anyway. with the separate card, you can record a stereo rough draft into an editing program to use as a rough mix until you get all of the automation done.

Re: questions regarding loops and rough mixes
You can submix to another stereo track.
1. set all of your outputs to a stereo bus 2. create a new stereo track with the inputs as the stereo bus 3. press record (you can make changes on the fly or make punch ins on the mix track) 4. Export your stereo track. hope this helps!
