how good thsi mike is compared to a apex 460 mic?

also Frontier design makes an a/d converter called a tango 24 8 -ch a/d d/a converter.

8 analog outputs and 8 analog inputs Balanced audio I/O on professional 1/4" TRS jacks
+4dBu or -10dBV levels, selectable per channel
Level meters selectable to inputs or outputs ADAT optical in/out/thru
Internal (44.1 or 48 kHz) and external clock modes Word-clock in/out

Goto I-Tunes and listen to the snippets of of Cakes Pressure Chief.
The vox was done off an NTK into a UA pre\comp.

Default NTK

i say just get it, for that price you can't go wrong.

i'm not a fan of the band, but you can hear the NTK on The Long Road by Nickelback.

if i remember correctly, they went through a Neve pre and a UREI 1176 compressor.

people either LOVE it or HATE it.

no one can say "worthless" or "garbage" because one man's trash is another man's #1 single.

Good Luck

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.............

Here ya go:

Tom Rothman - VOX - APEX into X71i - 1176 - Apogeee Rosetta 800 - BEAUTIFUL

Tom Rothman - VOX: Same: ORIGINAL SIN

Tom Rothman - VOX - RODE NTK - 1272 - 1176 - digi002 (older tune) : CREDITS

Joel Herrington - Vox - RODE NTK - 1272 - 1176 - APOGEE: OCEAN THOUGHTS

Hiatus - VOX - RODE NTK - 1272 - 1176 - APOGEE: TAPPING ON GLASS

I tend to go for the RODE on deeper voices as the tube really pulls out the growl. Ya gotta let it warm up though. I own two and used to use them for Room mics too, but now just acoustics, and vocals for the most part. Great mic. The APEX is also good, and has many uses too. It is a fantastic acoustic mic on the body.

Just gotta figure what it will be used for?

Hope this helps?

Doc

I love my NTK, its incredibly warm. It doesnt suit everything but considering youd be paying about a 10th of what it costs new (retail) then its a steal, and youll find plenty of use for it.

Be sure to replace the tube on a regular basis. Rode recommends every 1,000 to 4,000 hours of use depending on use and abuse. There have been a couple of threads - way back mind you - about whether to use the Rode recommended Sovtek or other qualified tubes.

Cheers,

I have just picked up a Rode K2 (variable polar responce) Nice Mic, has it's own power w/ varible control, controlled at the power supply. Will I have to change the "tube" in this mic, after awhile? Just curious, that's if you know. The manual doesn't say anything about it? But, just to let it "warm-up" before using. Nice condensor tube mic!
But get the NTK, it's about the same as the K2
