Default Please help - "Problem detected with audio clock" error on HP laptop

Hey everyone,

I have an MBox 2 hook up via the USB port running Pro Tools LE on my HP Pavilion dv6 laptop. Everything seems to be installed correctly but when I hit record I get this error:

"Problem detected with audio clock. Check that your clock source and sample rate are correct."

I am aware that I need to be saving to an external harddrive and I'm going to go and get one but could there be anything else about this set up that is causing the problem (I've read about this problem still happening after people have external harddrives)? I'm very much a novice to this stuff so details would be sweet as i might not understand otherwise!

Thanks heaps in advance for your help. Here's my Sandra report:

Start by disabling wifi and bluetooth when running Pro Tools. When it comes to an external recording drive, don't buy just any drive. You need to meet certain requirements. No USB drives, firewire drives need to use an Oxford 9xx chipset(Glyph and OWC Mercury drives do). The drive must be 7200 rpm (or faster) and no "green" drives(you don't want some power management BS spinning down the drive while recording). eSATA drives are not tested/supported, but many are using them with good performance. If you need a firewire port, get an approved card that fits your laptop slot(assuming it has one). The SIIG brand seems to be the better choice there. You might be able to record a few tracks to the internal drive, but don't expect much(its a 5400 rpm drive so performance will be poor at best). Also, you MUST set power options correctly. That means no screen saver, drives never sleep, screen stays on and USB ports need to have power management turned off(so they always stay powered). You may also get better performance by changing to another USB port(once you find one that works good, always use that one).

If you don't have it yet, the 8.0.4 update solved this problem for me.

For sure on this. And get the cs2 update as it fixes a serious audio placement problem that comes with 8.0.4
