Default Digitest Failed HDX - DMA?

Dear Avid friends,

my systems been misbehaving the last couple of days with some random noises and it seems perhaps a failed card.

I ran digitest and got a failure quoting "avid dma route test dsp 11"

Can anyone confirm this is a card which needs repair/replace or something else ?

much appreciated

Better immediately contact Avid Support if DigiTest shows problems

Yes, I'll definitely do that.

Just wondering about other people's experiences / cost involved in repairing an HDX card.

And I really wonder.. Why do these cards fail after all? Like in this case, just the RAM of a single DSP chip? How is that even possible?

Contacted Tech Support. They couldn't provide too much information but quoted me €1300 for a possible repair..

Hi,

A temp work around would be to open up a blank session, open system usage window and “disable” chip 11 (which from your digi test result looks to be the faulty chip) so count down from the top to chip 11 and (I think it’s) option click on the chip in the system usage window and it will go red and say disabled or allocated (something like that) then that chip won’t be used till you reboot pro tools again. You’ll lose 1 chip out of 18 but shouldn’t get the issue with random noises and static that happens when part of a chip goes funky.

I guess you’ve tried re-seating the card? Remove card get some air cleaner spray to blow out any possible dust from the pcie socket and clean the connector on the card gently and carefully with switch cleaner and re-seat card.

Yes around 800-1200 Euro ~ 1000-1400 USD is what others have paid and reported for repair and testing the card etc.

A working used HDX card is between 1500-1800 dollars so that price is very hard to swallow just to look at a pcie card. We had our Avalon vt737sp fixed and refurbished AND Siemens Tubes (real old tubes 4pc) fitted for 328 euro plus the extra 220 euro for the tubes as the ones Avalon fits are 130 euro for 4 so we paid an extra 220 euro for the much better tubes and still didn’t go over 600 dollars with all refurbish and tubes and calibration and change of 3 sets of parts that were essential for the compression side to function and made into the ”babyface” mod with all LED’s swapped aswell for the blue LED’s and faster attack compression etc

Sooo .. 1200 USD plus for looking at a pcie card ... WOW! Thats like NASA stuff right there LOL

And as we both are Swedish

If you have to have the card looked at and or fixed please contact me via the PM or email function as we know the right guy to fix that card for a few 1000 SEK at most. There’s no warranty anyway to break by not sending the card to an Avid rep who charges exhorbant prices.

These techs we have service our SSL console and our 24” tape machines are building Premium outboard gear and selling their gear all over the world for extreme prices as they are made to order by very very talented hands and genious minds.
