Speaking of ATX kits -- I stumbled into this... about $1000 savings, less the cost of the ATX case and power supply...

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...xpress_to.html

Is the PE6NE identical to the PE6R4, less the case? Penny wise/Pound foolish?

No case, no power supply, and it still uses 2 cables. The current PE6R4 uses a single i-Pass cable. Other than that, it appears to be the same.

Yup exactly the same, there is an option to buy the PSU as well, can anyone chime in on cheaper 500W PSU's? Surely there a lot more 4 LESS
Anyone got chassis ideas as well? Been looking at various PC full cases, much cheaper

I own a few Enermax PSUs. I have this in one of my PCs...

You DON'T need the latest and greatest i7 compatible power supply for this... a sub-$100 PSU will be more than adequate -- the reason I like Enermax is the fan is varispeed, and essentially the size of the unit. VERY quiet. $50 after rebate. I have one Enermax PSU that has been in service 24/7 for 5 years. I am sure there are other brands that are as good. This is one option.

When the 24 Core (12 Cores with Hyper Threading) Mac Pros come out in May/June
You will not need an expansion chassis.

no, with my other PCs I've built. Only one of this model, other mobos required slightly different models. I'm just saying that a good PSU is available for sub-$100

You will unless Apple makes the case REALLY HUGE. You can only fit 3 other cards in there right now which, if you have an HD3 system, would leave you no room for anything else.

Cool I would assume that the magma PSU is a standard 500W ATX one right?

cheers
