Default Cedar DNS One Hasp Craziness

FYI the new Cedar DNS One AAX plug in will not authorize with the old hasp dongle without updating it’s firmware. The new firmware is not compatible with the RTAS 4.3. I mix all my shows on a Windows computer which does not have a AAX version of the DSN One plug in yet.

I just had to update my the firmware on my dongle because clients where walking in the door and the studio I use to playback updated their computer without telling me!!!!

Now I have a 5000 dollar piece of plastic sitting in my windows machine which I can not revert to the original firmware without sending it back to the UK! WHAT THE HELL IS CEDAR THINKING!!!!

Youch!

The local dealer might still have dongles with older firmware you could use while the other is being shipped 8000 miles to have its innards fixed.

I'm sure they'll accomodate you. They should at such a price.

That sounds pretty frustrating. I had a similar experience with Waves, going from v8 to v9, iLok to their new auth., finding out v9 didn't work on one of my machines, etc...

Have you contacted Cedar and/or your dealer? Cedar themselves have very good customer support.

I emailed Clive and Paul. I just think it's really bad policy to build in incopatibity between rtas and aax and windows and osx. At the very least, there should be a warning about upgrading firmware and not being able to run rtas. It just says "do you want to upgrade the firmware, yes or no".

When i upgraded recently I was asked by the support person 3-4 times if i was sure i wanted to upgrade to the AAX version, as my hasp would become incompatible with the rtas version. Maybe these multiple warnings were in response to some issues like yours.

Hi,

From v5.2 of the AAX software you can now run the AAX and RTAS (v4.3) on the same dongle.

I did not see nor did anybody contact me about new version. Where did you get those? The website does not say anything about new version either.

Does the update fix the problem that the aax version becomes unlicensed from time to time when no oher solution than to restart protools?

The only issue I have with licensing if you move from a system with the rtas version to a system with the aax version. Then you have to re select the hasp auth on each plug in. Total pain and it's not fixed at all!!!!

If you use the DNS CS version of the plug-in, then you will have to select the process you want to use. But if you use the DNS One native and save this in your Pro Tools session then you don't.

This version of the software have been around for a while.

The CS version is to allow users that want to use the DNS One native and their DNS2000 or DNS3000 units on th esame system.
