Default Master fader request

If this has already been implemented in 8.0, someone please let me know, but Digi, please allow us the option to set the Master Faders to post plugins rather than just pre-plugins. This drives me nuts. Thank you.

lol... I can see how both of what you are saying is right. What I think the OP is asking, is that he wants the fader to control the audio after it has passed through all of the plug-ins instead of controlling the volume before it hits the plug-ins.

So he wants the fader to be post plug-ins (after the plug-ins) and yes.... he wants the plug-in inserts to be pre-fader.

Master faders in pro tools have always been, on all versions, pre insert. Another way of saying it is that inserts on a master fader are post fader. If you need this to be the other way around use AUX tracks.

Exactly. There's no difference between using an Aux or a MF for this purpose.

....Or use the trim plug in the last insert. Or VCA's.

Sorry, but this is wrong. An AUX is post-plugins, while a Master Fader is pre plug-ins, so there is a huge difference between the two. If you automate a fade out on a Master Fader with a Compressor and Limiter in the inserts, your fade out will sound different to when you do the same on an AUX.

The point is that if you make the inserts on a master fader pre-fader, then you would essentially have the exact same thing as an aux track.

He's just saying that for the OP's purpose, either track type will do the job and noting the difference between the two. Question answered.

Yea this has always bugged me as well, especially when mastering or automation on a master that has compression. . . I also think it would be better to have the fader after the inserts. Not sure why it is different on masters. . . Sure, I know all the work arounds (Typically I insert another plugin after the compression and automate volumes/fades that way) but it is just not right the way it is as it is a strange inconsistency.

Personally I would like to see it the same on all types of tracks, but a little different than at present as follows.

Default: All inserts pre-fader, for all track types, including masters.
Option to: Select a split point between inserts, and all inserts before the split point are pre-fader, and all inserts after the split point are post fader.
