Default CPU Overload 6101

Hello,

For 2 years I have now been batteling the CPU Overload error 6101, an ultimate nightmare which never occurred on my 2001 PC or even 2009 Laptop.

I am not able to run 2 Software instruments together or even record ONE MONO Audio Track with a Reverb Aux:

Macbook Pro, early 2015,I5, 8 GIG Ram, external phantom drive, external disc for all Samles, El Capitan. I was not told in the Mac Brisbane Store that I wont be able to upgrade to 16 GIG RAM however, when I bought it Pro Tools requirements were only 8 GIG Ram.

The 6101 CPU Error keeps coming even though my CPU is on 5% and my RAM USAGE below 29%, I have optimized my Mac via Avid recommendations for El Capitan.

It is hard to believe that a brand new Macbook Pro (in 2016) would give me such .3. I already recored on Cubase and a Atari STE in the 80ies, and NEVER did I have such drama and problems. Even my cheaper than chips 2009 laptop and Cubase NEVER gave me any troubles. I deeply regret to have spent 2600 AUD for a Macbook Pro which cant be upgraded - and does not work at all with Pro Tools 12.3

Welcome to the community.

Maybe this thread can help?

Also, many PT users have struggled with OS El Capitan. Just an FYI.

Thank you, I will try that. Just need to find the time as Inalready wasted months with thisnone problem. I had these problems now for 2 (!) Years. Being a producer since 1988, I wish I would have just updated my Cubase and bought another cheesy 500 AUD PC instead of spending 10.000 on mac, protools and other software.

Just a few months ago I sold my recording studio in Austria (moved to Australia 2010) .... my old 2005 PC still works without any problems, it even supports Omnisphere and other new plug ins ....

I just dont have the time to spend months with a CPU 6101 problem, just beforemInwasted another 3 hours and as usual, couldnt solve this issue.

The CPU ran on 1%, 16% of Ram used ... no plugins, no effects, about 10 mono tracks..... the error comes the moment I let the music run and click somewhere ....

So far, Avid support AND mac support was unable to help me, I have an external hard drive and Tascam US 08x16 ... I was advised to only connect both devices without USB Hub .....? This is not possible due to Ilok ....

Extremely disappointed .... if this problem continues i ll have to buy a PC and install Cubase again. Pro Tools / Mac is absolutely unusable.

Update: pro tools can handle 4 Omnisphere plus 3 H reverbs and loads of EQ if I dont use my external soundcard, a Tascam US 08x16. 75% CPU and 50% Ram, no error.

I created a file in the desktop, no problem without soundcard. Also worked via external soundcard.

The moment I let it play via Soundcard, I get the error. What can I do? I am sure I downloaded the latest driver for it....

This is confusing to me. You get errors via Soundcard (?), but not with or without external soundcard?

It seems that I dont get errors, at least not as many - if I dont use the Tascam US 16x08 external soundcard, just the Mac I/O. Have connected it correctly as recommended to USB near Thunderbolt Port and use 1024 buffer Size, error still pops up after 15 sec.

Have only tried itnfor about 5 minutes, adding loads of EQ, Reverbs while running 4x Omnisphere Instrument no error with Mac I/O....

Can you borrow or rent a different interface and see if PT works with that? That would definitely point to the Tascam. RME has probably the best drivers.

I have tried other soundcards. Tascam has by far the best sound, I already used other huge Tascam soundcards and made it into the charts ....

After about 20 hours of struggeling (and 2 years of suffering, wasting months) there is a glimmer of hope:

I have switched to "mixer bypass" on the soundcard and connected it to the USB near the Thunderbolt Port instead of the one near the HDMI. I finished a full production without 6101 error. Hopefully, it will stay like that .... maybe the built in mixer causes the card to struggle synchronising with the Mac?

After trying 1001 things, so far this one seems to work .... total madness, I have read dozens of forums, changed countless connections, optimized the system and a million other things.

I used the latest drivers and software, but the SETTING PANEL of the Tascam US 16x08 offered an additional "true mixer bypass" switch ... which was not there in the previous version ...
