Default 88/20 vs ADAT bridge Sound Quality...

Okay users. A friend let me borrow his 882/20 interface and I already have the ADAT bridge. I've really learned alot on this site about ProTools and Digital audio, but sometimes there are so many rumours to sort through. And one of them was that the analog outs sounded better on the ADAT bridge than on the 882/20! Any experience of feedback would be greatly appreciated on this matter.

Also I'm trying to find a way to "optimally" setup my system using both interfaces. Which interface should be the master?

Thanks,mixtery.

Default Re: 88/20 vs ADAT bridge Sound Quality...

mixtery,

I use an 882/20 and ADAT Bridge exclusively. I sync the Bridge with a JLCooper DataSync2. I have the ADAT lightpiped to the "A" side and a Yamaha 01v lightpiped to the "B" side. To get the correct Hardware Setup menus and to sync properly the Bridge should be the Master interface (as PT sees it), but I record with the 882/20.

As far as sound quality. To my ears, the 882/20 sounds better. I generally use the Ch 1-2 outputs from the Bridge for headphone distribution.

Hope this is helpful.

hey thanks for the tip! I just have an analog mixer and some external mic pres, I don't plan on using the ADAT bridge for anything but dumping the old tapes I have and using it for AES digital dumping to PT.
DO I need the JLCooper to sync still? Or can I just hook up both interfaces using the BNC cable and set the ADAT to master?

Thanks,
Mixtery
