Unhappy Error 9128 + No auto Backup Sandra Posted

I was running M-powered, upgraded to LE that came with Eleven Rack and then cross graded to PT9 and added Instrument expansion pack.
Getting 9128 errors with only running three instruments and not very hard at that. Also getting error about an 'underrun' (might not be right term) asking to lower the HW buffer. And now am getting error messages about not being able to perform Auto Backup.

So, yes all recommended optimizations found in manual and here on kb article on the duc have been implemented and rechecked. Even though the Sandra report lists some motherboard supplied periphials they have been disabled in Device Manager. Also my data drives D & E were supposed to have been 10k rpm not 7200rpm so I hope this is a Sandra booboo. This computer was...and is.. a PT only rig so basically I went through and confirmed settings when I upgraded, no settings had to be changed except deselecting powerdown of usb hubs. This thing was a monster running M powered 8.04 so its a little disconcerting to have these issues after crossgrading to PT9

All drivers are updated, however... after installing the most recent driver for my Profire Lightbridge I was getting no midi thruput but reinstalling the hardware drivers found on the PT9 disc seemed to have corrected this.

Have checked the plug in list and have confirmed that all my plug ins are compatable and up to date. I have one notable exception which is a copy of East West Goliath as thier current update doesn't seem to be downloading. Further I do not have the structure version, but rather the .vst version as I was planning on accessing the samples using Structure for the time being while I save up for the FXpansion rewire converter. Thats noteworthy as there does not seem to be a way for digi to be talking to the eastwest software or to even realize its sitting around dormant.

Regarding the Auto Backup error, Yes my protools is set to perform autobackups but I'm getting the error message anyway as if the hard drive is write protected (it's not)

Regarding 9128 error, have tried adjusting # of processors and percentages up and down.... at one point the percentages offered in the drop down menu resembled what PT would show for a single core machine rather than a multicore machine (per the Eleven Rack manual)

Thats pretty much everything I can think of, hope you guys can point me in the right direction. I feel it very unlikely that this is a hardware failure as this machine worked great running Mpowered....although I will say the d/a converters sound a WHOLE lot better coming out of the Eleven Rack than the Profire lightbridge. Thanks in advance for your help. Bryant

Little bit of a bad-a-'bump'-a-ronie

Status update: Got the east west to final take its update medicine and its working fine in stand a lone mode. There is now an rtas .dll file for it in DAE>Plug In folder and it loads in a session from the drop down menu. PT9 still misbehaving with same error messages... get the same problems in new sessions as well as old sessions that were running +10 instruments with tons of midi tracks and audio tracks just fine in M-powered.

Ran with the CPU meter window up for a bit just to see what kind of load was taking place and to see if I could narrow down the particular instrument that was giving me trouble. Didn't take long (like 10 measures at 120) for the 9128 error message to pop up but the meter wasn't even lit. Hoping that helps you guys to diagnose things here.

Alright... no one is responding so I utilized the "Uninstall" on the PT9 disc and started over again..... Removed the Profire Lightbridge driver and device and stuck with just the Eleven Rack as something to try. Was working great for about a half hour with no errors. Went to load a Spectrasonics Stylus RMX patch on an instrument that was already loaded and now I have a new error called "Access Violation" that hard crashes PT9 faster than you can read the error message and then computer must be rebooted to restart PT9.
After reloading PT9 and before opening the first session, I checked the plug in folder to make sure all the little .dll files were there for my instruments and they were. Also checked the ilok and all the little licenses seem to still be there.
Never seen this error before. Searches of the duc seem to point to this error when saving... not the case here.

Hey guys... I could really use a hand here, can anyone help me please?

Access violation happened again, caught part of the message before it blue screened. It says something like "unable to write to location 0x000000000"
Found a remnant pref and database file that didn't get removed when I uninstalled M-Powered It was hiding in my documents folder for some strange reason.. I seem to remember those things being on the various hard drives at one time but there were no pref or database files on the other hard drives.
AND
Even after uninstalling PT9 and Reinstalling I'm getting 9128 errors still while the system usage window shows only using max 8% CPU. Have the settings at 7 processors and 99%. Don't know what else to try.

Bryant,

Yep I also had a bunch of crashes today and know I saw the same error code "unable to write to location 0x000000000" among various others. Sorry I don't have any suggestions, just chiming in as I hope AVID takes note of us WIN 7 folks!!!

My crash issues seems to be related to using my UAD2 card, and perhaps the way PT9 handles the ADC for such device. I even tried reinstalling my system on a separate brand new drive with nothing but Win 7, PT9, UAD2, and RME FF800 sound card. Still just as crash prone. Did all the system optimizations. I also had PT8 which never crashed on me, but I never tried my UAD2 with it. My system also works fine (UAD2 and all) with Sonar 8.5 and Reaper.

That said, we have very similar computers and are both running Windows 7 64bit. Same MB, CPU, WD drives. I'm running Corsair ram (after my OCZ gold started throwing errors) and I just picked up a Pro Tools "supported" video card. Alas still no go either.

My system:
Home built PC with
Gigabyte EX58-UD3R MB
i7 920 CPU
Corsair Dominator 6gb 1600mhz ram
x2 WD Caviar black 7200rpm sata drives
Gigabyte (Nvidia) 8600GT video card (just tried a PT approved Nvidia NVS290, but no improvements noted)
UAD2 quad
Windows 7 64 bit
RME Fireface 800 (also tried my M-Audio/Avid Fast Track ultra which IS supported by PT, but no improvements noted on the crashing issues)

GKinTN Try looking in C>Users>(your name for what used to be 'My Docs')>(hidden folder)APPDATA>Roaming>Digidesign

You might find an old pref and database file there that you can erase to make the access violation problem go away. But......just in case...you may want to wait till someone from digisupport chimes in on that one. Once upon a time those pref and Database stinkers used to be just files you found all alone on the various hard drives. The ones I found there in my case, were clearly marked M-Powered which was my clue that they didn't need to be there anymore. Since removing them, I have not had access violations, but I still get 9128 errors saying I'm challenging my CPU even though the apps own CPU meter never makes it above 8% and my own third party CPU meter says its not hitting 2%.

Thankyou for being the first person to respond to my delimma in a couple of days.

Here's the latest.... now protools isn't communicating with the Eleven Rack on The start up of a session...

Tried cycling power on Eleven Rack when PT asked me to "reconnect" (it had not been disconnected)
Checked Device Manager and there are no error symbols, confirmed that USB hub menu selection to keep from allowing OS from powering them down when not in use remained de-selected (they were)

So...
Trying to download and reinstall PT9 Drivers for Eleven Rack from Avid site now.....

And again, here's the latest. Had a remote share session with the techs at sweetwater since they sold me the goods. Confirmed that the optimizations and setup was in accordance with Avid recommendations. Did not find the problem... however as we were going thru the checks we discovered that the usb hubs had rechecked the power saver options all by themselves. I know for certain that I've had to deselect them twice already myself.

So is this it then for PT9? an i7 computer bogging down with just four instruments loaded lightly and no other plug ins? Not even any EQ running yet????.... just four instruments? Really???

And the latest..... now when I receive a 9128 error and I select Setup>Playback engine I get another error message that states "Could not complete the Playback Engine Command because The system cannot find the file specified (2)" (surprise face added by me)

Now what... and still no help from a HOBO or Digi support???

C'mon guys, help a fella out here.

Bump again
Getting desperate, changing things in the bios one at a time to see if it makes a difference, no joy so far. Some help would be nice.
