Default Playlist comping in 2018.12

Ever since the update, Ive had trouble comping when there are a lot of playlists. Seems really slow switching the solo to audition alternate takes and even beachballs sometimes. Is anyone else having this issue? Worked perfect in .10 and before.

Thanks
Paul

If .10 worked better, why not roll back(IOW, if .12 didn't fix anything for you, why struggle with it?). For me, comping has always been slightly less than perfect, and I find it easiest to stop playback when switching lanes with the SOLO buttons(plus, if you switch on the fly, it actually takes a few seconds before you are actually hearing the lane you selected)

It seems that this may be confined to Mac systems

try clearing your waveform cache. this used to happen to me in large comp sessions of 200+ playlists on one track and clearing waveform cache helped temporarily. def has to do with how many waves are on screen at a time.

seems better lately but I am still on 2018.10.

I am having the same problem. . . it takes a number of seconds when i press solo on a playlist lane. I am coming from ProTools 10/HD, and have never experienced this kind of delay before. It is killing my time and concentration when trying to loop audition takes. On PT 10 I could loop playback and click on solo, just needed a second or two lead time in the loop. Now, with session stopped, it is multiple seconds before the solo button even lights up on the playlist lane. Not good for my blood pressure Yes, I have a hundred or more in the playlist, but so did I in the past. . . CPU is not working hard on the meters, other than the CPU spikes inherent with Pro Tools Ultimate/HDX. . .

I am having the same exact issue. It was absolutely embarrassing and stressful using the playlist recently and trying to go through 30 different takes and while comping words. It took a million years, and I too got the beach ball, and soloing in the playlist took 2-3 seconds to switch over.

I know this post was started in Dec, but by chance, did you guys find a solution to this?

The solution is to roll back to 2018.10. This an issue brought up by Howardk (have a search for his posts) and Avid have acknowledged it as a problem.
