Default Re: Is My System Good Enough For PT LE 8?

Yes and no

those 8 MB hard drives will not play nice with protools, same with the 5400 RPM drives. get something at least 7200 RPM and 16MB cache. Make sure protools is on a separate drive form your sessions.

Everything else looks good to me. what type of interface are you thinking of using?

If its USB, make sure you disable power management on USB ports via device manager.

If its a firewire interface, make sure its a TI chipset.

Default Re: Is My System Good Enough For PT LE 8?

I'm new to PTools and digital recordiing. last Spring I built an AMD Tri-core Phenom on an ASUS motherboard similar to yours, and bought a new internal 500 gig WD similar to yours. I could not get PT LE to run (started with XP system). I had to disable ALL USB devices, including an external 300 gig WD and also a USB hub with nothing connected as well as my USB keyboard and mouse. I finally got it to load and run bits of session, the problem apparently being within my Mbox 2 I guess. But when McAfee updates crashed XP systems last summer, I updated to WIN7, and all kinds of problems again. I have finally reverted to a 6 year old Gateway Media Center running a new copy of XP on a completely reformatted hard drive, with a 2nd internal 500 gig Seagate as my PT drive. I have no internet, no virus scan, and NO USB peripherals (using wired mouse and keyboard) and a single core (old Pentium) processor with 2 gigs ram. So far it's doing what I ask it to do.. though I'm much too new to place any real demands on it yet. Good luck on your AMB build. Please post your results as you go through setup.
